Good to see your posting of portrait. It is not easy shooting children as they are always moving around.

My suggestion will be

1. avoid hand motion blur
2. place off center position
3. lower your camera at the child's level
4. shoot from the side of the face, not behind
5. shoot more frames till you get the best
6. avoid snapshot, use your E-500 SLR
