[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
In yesterday's upload from me, I talked about ice, mid summer, in the Gobi Desert. Here is a section of Yolyn Am Canyon. (Vultures Beak Gorge). The red coating is dust, from sandstorms. You have to be careful where you walk too, as there are holes & thin parts that a person could easily fall through, & it's a long way to the nearest hospital. The ice was still around 3-4 metres thick, at the end of June, & is usually all melted by August. In winter, it's 30 metres thick!

Hello Chris.
Good shot together with the info, very interesting.
Reminds me of the Mount Etna, in Sicily.
There also the snow covered the sill hot lava, and can be dangerous to walk on it. (Happend to me, but not too serious)
I have a picture where the snow is again covered with a tin layer of as fall, and the sun burned a hole in it like almost this picture here.
