[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Here is another photo from Burma, as I do not want (people) to forget the recent protests lead by the country's monks. Meanwhile the junta has crushed the peaceful movement killing or deporting participants. The relevant figures to be learned from the media vary.

During our visit to Burma last December we also visited several markets enjoying their hussle and bustle, their colours, and their presentations of many different kinds of food.

This photo was taken in Mandalay. I did not ask the lady to pose, as I wanted a candid shot. Although the scene was in the shade, the fish in the FG unfortunately got OE and the lady is a bit 'soft'. Still, I hope you like this genre image. Let me know what you think. Thank you for visiting!

Some commentators wanted to know about the white paste on her face. I used to think it was white clay until I looked it up today realising that my assumption had been wrong. My apologies!
The paste is called thanaka, "... a yellowish-white cosmetic commonly applied to the face by many people in Burma ... It is considered the beauty secret of Burmese women. ... Thanaka cream is made by grinding the bark of the thanaka tree with a little water on a circular stone slab...
For over 2000 years, thanaka cream has been an essential part of the beauty routine of Burma women. It has a distinctive mild and pleasant fragrance which is slightly similar to sandalwood. The creamy paste is applied to the face in attractive designs, the most common form being a circular patch on each cheek...
Apart from cosmetic beauty, thanaka also provides protection from sunburn, helps remove acne and promotes smooth skin. It is a traditional cosmetic and an inexpensive form of skin care. ...
Thanaka has anti-fungal properties. Mosquito repellents, when mixed with thanaka and worn, were found to effectively ward off mosquitoes carrying malaria and dengue fever." (from wikipedia)

Hi Cordelia - i think you could have gone for a faster shutterspeed/larger f-stop/higher ISO combo and that may have helped a couple of the wee issues?

But regardless of some technicalities, there is a good taste of daily life here - and, to me, that is more important. In fact, the slight blur on her right hand adds to the picture, i think. I am also drawn to the scales in the background, i feel that they help the overall balance of the scene. Nivce documentary, real-life shot...well done!

das ist ein tolles Motiv, sie sitzt so verzückt vor ihren Fischen als wäre es das beste auf der Welt - und ganz und gar mit einem edlen Duft ;-) Gefällt mir sehr - so was hab' ich nicht gesehen, wohl aber 2 ältere Damen beim Mais-grillen an einer von Yangons Hauptstraßen - hatte ich auch schon mal hier.
Das ist das tolle in diesem Land, die Leute sind so freundlich und interessant, vielen Dank für Deinen "Leckerbissen", tschüssi

Hello Cordelia!
Obviously the woman is happy surrounded by her nice fish, despite the disturbances in the country. Can you explain what the local monks are protesting about? I heard about the price of fuel... But fuel prices rise in other parts of the world too... It's good to here the story from a person like you.

Well the lady is busy preparing the fish - so this way you show that and as for the fish, I don't really care - half a year ago I did not even know a thing like OE excisted - I like it this candid way of showing.
In south Africa we also did see several people with that powder on their faces - is that protection or decoration - do you know that?

Hi Cordelia, you know the flaws in the image but as you say, this is a nice candid shot.
The lady seems to protect her skin from the sun with some creme.

Dear Cordelia Gee,
you have honest eyes to the people in Thailand and Myanmar. and I can find your delicate feeling of beautifulness of objective colors.
(of course affectionate sensation to Australian nature and people is obvious.)
I think people are always living vigorously however their national politics is bad or good, in modern or ancient world.
I can feel this vigor and toughness in your shot.
