In december 1984 I was doing a trek in Nepal for a few weeks,it turned out to be a few steps back in time.
Overhere me and a friend were on our way to Jharkot(3500m),a very friendly Tibetan village in Gandaki one of Nepals most remote and rough provinces, just a few miles from the Tibetan border.
In the middle, the trail we followed through the Jhong Khola valley is very well visible from miles away,in maybe one of the highest deserts on earth.

Hoi Jan,

wat een gaaf landschap erg indrukwekkend, de man op de voorgrond geeft een beetje aan hoe groot de berg is.

ps mooi boek: 1984

Beautiful landscape captured immaculately. Was there a total absence of haze? It is so clear. Rider in bottom right gives good sense of perspective. Fine job

Fantastic! The man and the horse give me idea of the size of those big and very different mountains. Seems like 3 photos in one. Very, very interesting. Great sharpness and colors. TFS

Hi dear friend
waw! breath taking landscape!
Amazing shapes and textures.
You are lucky that you were there.
Lovely presented. Thanks.
Best wishes,
Ioana

Wow - you are lucky - you visited Nepal such a long time ago - no tourists, it was interesting and wonderful I think.
Our times are also changing the Asian countries, good for the people, but sometimes we from Europe would like to see the life as it was 20 years or more ago.
I also would like to visit Nepal, we have a nephew - he is adopted from Katmandu several years ago.
So thanks for you for this impressive shot, bye and greetings

Hi Jan..great shot...wonderfully composed..great details and tones.

Hi Jan,

Pretty good image here. I assume it is made with color film and scanned. Resolution, tonal range are excellent, you did a great job scanning the image. Composition is well balanced. It's bad that the man on the horse is not more visible because I sure he plays an important role in you composition. However, it is still a great shot, TFS.

Alain

in thumb i see huge dark mountain not much interest.
in real picture i see the beauty and the great of nature hiding in that huge dark mountain.
it make me stun for a while and make me feel we just a very little part of nature.( at least the man on the horse present this feeling very well :)

Hello Jan,

What an impressive shot!
You have captured the textural details of these mountains very well.
The subdued colours give us an indication of the austerity of the location.
The little man on his horse not only makes us a good focal point but also addan understanding of the scale.

The person would have been perfectly placed with a few centimetres of ground underneath him so that he horse did not loose its legs and it would have been on that dynamic point.
Also there is pixelation in the sky which is very easy to remove. I have done a w/s for you which I hope pleases you.

Congratulations, my friend, on reaching 10,000 points. A real milestone!

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

I have travelled to Nepal and to your homeland - the contrast between the two is stark. I can imagine the impact this place must have had on you all those years ago. The image is powerful in its vast scale and absolute clarity.

hello Jan

Fantastic landscape view and really a dream place to visit with such mountains. For 1984 quality, this is superb work! I only wish the horse is not cropped so close.

And yes, 1984 Orwell.

Good work.

Hi Jan,
Stunning landscape photo from Nepal, with beautiful grey tones of the soil. Clarity and sharpness is amazing, and it was very useful to include the riding man on the bottom for a scale. Congratulations, TFS!

Excellent hills. I like this frame to

This is great shot. I notice that there is a horseman at the bottom right of this picture. I think it would be nice if it was included. It would give a sense of scale to the size of this landscape. I would love to visit this lovely place one day. Thank you for sharing
