| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
| On a farm high up in the Himalayas, Josie is putting a tika on the forehead of her daughter Parbati. Dassain is being celebrated all over Nepal on this day. All Hindus (and many others) celebrate the Hindu Goddess, Durga's victory over the demons. This is the one time in the year, when even the poorest should celebrate with a feast, new clothes, and tikas. Family members arrive from far away to celebrate together. If you can have even one bite of goat, and wear your "best" clothes no matter how poor you are, it is a celebration none the less. I cannot tell you how much these people touched my heart with their kindness to me a stranger, sharing all they have. |
