with a big smile on my face, i'm sharing this one with you :)

this is THE b&w macro i was talking about in my previous flower photo :)

the setup was really simple, the flower pot was placed next to the dining room window :) and i was placed right next to the pot itself :)

now here's the fun and crazy technical bit; using an aperture of f/29 on my 105mm macro lens, i was able to focus decently while still managing to keep things adequately sharp across the frame :)

the rule of thirds was the key factor in the composition of this photo, i knew other approaches wouldn't be as strong and as appealing :)

to avoid camera shake, i chose a shutter speed of 1/80s :) and the resulting ISO was ISO 3600 :) NOISE REDUCTION was OFF :) i love the beautiful grain the D3 gives :)

this is the original composition, i did some levels adjustment in capture nx and then chose a film filter in photoshop, this time using Nik Silver Efex Pro :) the whole point of which was to make the blacks and whites stronger :) the only concern on my mind was to prevent the whites from being burnt :)

thanks for viewing :) let's see what u think of this one :)

I love the composition, really! But I think I would prefer the coloured version!! You can see a better contrast, but I miss the colours....
Can you show me the coloured version in a Workshop????

Hi mark25

An excellent flower to use for a b&w conversion, the tones contrast perfectly. Details are sharp and the off centre composition works really well. Definately an eye catching picture.
Thanks for sharing
