wen i see fotos like this saludo ako sa kumuha..dahil pinapakita nya ang tunay na buhay ng pilipino/.....

nice black n whyt nice contrast great pov

It's so so tough for me to look at something like this, then to just click off onto the main gallery and look at other photos. That's the thing about photos: they can "freeze" something in time for the viewer, but for the subject....they are still living, still struggling, still doing whatever it is they do. And then you have to wonder: where is this family now? What is the mother thinking about? Did the children get to eat at all today?
Very good capture of the little boy looking up at you from behind his mother. This is rather close-up, did you talk to her before taking the picture? The black and white reminds the viewer of the somber theme and subject matter, and the detail and clarity and sharpness shows all the textures of the concrete, the tin wall at the left, the rocks and trash and dirt on the floor, and the hair and skins of the mother and children. Very good composition with them off-center, the rest of the sidewalk leading the viewer's eye to the background. Lots of perspective and depth. All of this I think lends to the fact that they are stuck in poverty, that this is a dark and sobering situation. I mean, what else can I say about this? I am sitting, well-fed, in my office with my computer....there is such a disconnect...
Thankyou though for posting such an emotionally effective photo.

hi xavier,

i love this photo :) the tones, the contrasts, the shooting angle, and the elements present within the frame are exceptional...

this is exactly how i love to treat my black and white photos, but you've certainly done a better job here :)

simply amazing :) very photojournalistic :) thanks for sharing :)

A great capture, Xavier. Seeing families like this on the streets in Manila was a real culture shock the first time I visited. It is such a raw vision of poverty.
Beautifully captured and presented; excellent treatment in b&w, great work with the vignette.
You've done an outstanding job.
