| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
My girl was out visiting me today, and I haven't been tinkering with my camera as of late. Now, I'm trying out the 'fill the frame' adage to portraiture. Notice that I placed her well in the middle, in obvious violation of the thirds rule, but since there was some space to be eaten up, I decided to put in some vignette via CS3. Also, I used some flash on this one, bounced from the left side.
PP was to crank up the contrast and blacks, and then some desaturation. |

nice ahot Jo! love the DOF and the girls angle... well done... TFS
Beautiful smile! Good tight framing.
In portraiture the 'rule of thirds' doesn't quite apply in the same way - it's a rule of diagonals, which your shot almost meets. Aiming the camera just a little lower - more of her arm, less of the space above her head - would make the difference here.
Using such a wide aperture, I wouldn't be surprised if a number of your shots turned out out-of-focus (it's a very common issue with fast lenses) did you use the centre-focus-recompose technique for this?
I really like the fact that you haven't gone crazy with blurring or skin softening - she looks naturally beautiful - and no big ugly signature either.
Nice work.
