Gumasa, Glan
Sarangani Province

Gumasa is a small fishing village in the municipality of Glan, a coastal town on the southern end of the Sarangani bay near the tip of mainland Mindanao. Its popular for its fine white sand beach that stretches for almost a kilometer. While popular for its beach, the remote area gained notoriety in the 1990s because of the kidnappings. Tourists avoid the place, they instead prefer the gray sand beaches on the northwestern side of Sarangani bay because of their proximity the city of General Santos.

Techniques:
- tripod
- CPL to remove the glare
- Cokin GND (ND8, 3 f/stops) handheld over the CPL

I had to take several shots before I got satisfied with the effect of the waves I wanted. The light was constantly changing and I have to readjust my settings and correct the GND position.

I was the trigger man and my wife was my "spotter", telling me if a good wave is closing in. Since I handhold my GND filter I have to be constantly looking into the viewfinder to make sure the filter is properly positioned and to make sure my fingers are not in the frame :D

wonderful shot allan but little bit dark in the upper part area!. still good ground.

benny

Fantastic image! The composition is a very nice and the colors work so well together. The technique with both the GND and the CPL worked very well and all combined make this a great shot.

Good use of Grad ND here Allan, though i kinda think that it can be a little brighter on the sky. as the tree is almost silhouette. But very dramatic

Yan

hi allan, i am thrilled to read about your use of handheld filters as i do that all the time (1 and 2 stop n/grad greay filters) i love this shutter speed and colors but the tonal range too extreme for my likings, almost over polarized-just my opinion though-thought i should be honest,
take care,
scott

another fine landscape posting Allan, patience is always the key in landscapes, especially at handheld GND FILTERS as i practice also, ganda ng compo and effect of the waves, sana makapunta ako sa mga spots na napupuntahan mo,maybe you can help me, might go home this May, i will send you e-mail.TFS. ingat palagi.

Hi Allan,

Lovely moody shot here, your wife has got it spot on with a lovely rolling wave, love the green foreground rocks and that brooding sky.

Hi Allen, Wat a beautiful photo! The effect of the waves is marvellous!! What is a GND filter? I think, reading your note, you held it in your hand, but is it something special?? Why did you use it?

I love the light in this photo. Dark at the top end light at the bottom... (is that the effect of the GND??:) )

Well done!

Janneke

galing nice shot. ganda even if its alittle dark. Ang galing naman effect ng cokin. ang ganda ng water.

Wonderful Shot, Allan! Everything came out just right from the exposure to horizon level, thirds, compo, etc. TFS Nice mood created with the clouds as well.
