[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is one of the hundred shots I took inside the St. Paul Subterranean River National Park that actually looks okay.

If you look closely, you will find in this photo several swallows flying and a lot of bats hanging in the ceiling, which I think adds something to the photo.

It was pitch black inside the cave making autofocus virtually impossible. I was also having problems with uneven illumination since all of the light comes from the speedlight. What I did was, I set the speedlight to full power and bounced the light at the ceiling to somewhat give an even lighting.

This photo could be improved significantly. I would like to hear what you guys think. Thank you

hi there, i think overall its good considering the situation, the flash is a bit strong on the rock to the right but good elsewhere, the composition is bang on, there is a holo effect on the boat above their heads??, i dont know what else can you do except a long exposure which would blur movement but hey you captured the moment which is great!
thanks scott

Tapang mo dre a, dala mo camera mo sa loob! Actually I brought mine inside too when I was there. Medyo na kulang sa DOF, probably because of f/4.0. Its understandble, its really pitch black inside so focusing is also useless. So shoot lang ng shoot. I was able to get this while I was there: (Sorry for the advert... :) ).

Nothing much can be done, I think. You wont be able to use long exposures because you are in a small boat yourself. Nothing to focus on to because of the darkness. The flash is really necessary. Sana you played around with the ISO para you can get a smaller aperture using higher ISO. WIth your camera, I think ISO 1000 can be handled well without much noise.

Thanks for sharing bro!

Hi Timothy
I don't think it's a bad photo at all, I think you did well! I guess you could experiment with layers - duplicating this shot to a new layer, using shadow/highlight or equalise functions to reduce the dynamic range, and then adjust the layer's opacity until it looks right ... but that's just playing!
This is sharp, well composed; a good shot under the circumstances!
