this is one of 2 mynas my mom owns for a pet. mynas or hill mynas are endangered bird specie found in most wooded forests of southeast asia. in the philippines, mynas are inhabitants of palawan and sulu.
a myna has an unmistakable appearance with its predominantly black plumage being accented with a red and yellow bill, pale orange eyelids, orange-yellow ear flaps and yellow feet. it usually occurs in pairs in all sorts of wooded areas where it has an omnivorous diet. the myna is a common cage bird thanks to its ability to mimic (hence also known as 'talking' bird) human vocalizations. in nature, it uses large repetitive notes and also mimics other species.
last year when i was home, just as i opened the gate to our house this mayna warned my mom 'may tao, may tao 'di ko kilala' (there's somebody, somebody coming in who i don't recognize).... |

What a unique looking bird! Nice shot, I wonder if this bird gets a chance to
go out, and move around once in a while. I got a soft spot for birds. Well done!
