Cattle Egrets
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
The cattle egret is a medium sized bird, with a 'hunched' posture, even when it is standing erect. In comparison to other egrets, it is short-legged and thick-necked. The cattle egret is very gregarious and can be easily identified by its tendency to associate closely with grazing animals. It tends to roost in large colonies, usually with other species of colonial waterbirds. It is strongly migratory.
This particular flock stays on the rice field near my home (in fact in my property) and I saw them circling because a Brahminy Kite (similar to a hawk) was fishing nearby. As soon as the kite entered the territory, the egrets flew and circled around, avoiding the kite. Fortunately, I had my camera and zoom with me ... so I was able to record the spectacle. |

Hello Ken,
Great action shot!
I like the composition, and the white birds on the lush green of the rain forest is very pleasing to my eye...
