When the Spaniads walked onto this small island beach in about 1521 they found that the soft coral sand felt like walking on cotton. Their word for cotton was like Boracay and this slice of paradise has been called this ever since. This is around 8am in the morning, a good time to walk along this 4km beach before the temperature rises to around 32 degrees celcius where it remains until evening.
There is only one thing i don't like about Boracay - having to leave!

Several versions exists about the origin of the name Boracay. According to one, it derives from the old local word borac, meaning cotton, in reference to the white, cotton-like color and texture of Boracay's sand.
According to another version, the name came from the local word bora (bubbles) and bocay (white), because Ati elders amazed at the resemblance of the white sand to water bubbles.
Yet another Legend has it that the name dates back to the time when Spaniards came ashore and picked up shells. Meeting with the Atis later, the Spaniards were told that Sigay is the name of those shells. When the Spaniards ask the Atis were planting, they were told boray, a certain vegetable seed. From boray and sigay came the name Boracay.
Antonio Pigafetta, Magellan's meticulous chronicler, came in 1521 to the Visayas but did not notice any evidence of writing skills in the places he visited. Instead, he noted that the natives were impressed that he could repeat things that they had said earlier by reading back his notes.

Oh dear, fantastic blues Murray. Looks like this was past Willie's rock, very close to where I stayed. The waves look stronger this time, the coconut-lined beach and its shadows are attractive. A fantastic tropical scene. I wish I were back there. Interesting reading about the origin of Boracay. Cheers.

A wonderful looking tropical beach, that I so want to go to in January, when it's sub-Arctic in Korea. I like the blue sky & yachts far right. Good sharpness & framing. Tfs!
Hi Murray,
The presence of the people on the beach has an effect of scale. The palm trees are framing well the beach. The capture of the waves coming to shore is an asset to the composition. The point of view leads our eyes toward the horizon which is giving depth to the photo. The nice blue sky is sending a light which is enhancing the colors of the tropical scenery. Have a nice day.
