Was this taken during Manny's workshop? Do you use a standalone meter or in camera? I'm still a novice in terms of technicalities in shooting and would like to learn as much as I can.

Now to the workshop, Changed levels to bring out her brown skin tone a little bit. Then added a slight diffuse glow to enhance the highlights on her skin.

hi rolly,
i prefer this pose rather than the previous one. eye contact is better than the other (looked like she's sleeping there). nice pose, colors and exposure. congrats to you and your model. tfs.

Do you mean measuring it every pose and change your settings manually? I believe the model will lost her spontaneity in the process.

When I shoot with studio lights, I always use center weigthed metering with aperture priority. So my camera measure it automatically.

I like the color of skin tones, perfectly expose however the part of the hair is not defined and blend in the background which is rather uninteresting.

My she really is pretty. But I find her skin complexion a little pale on this one. I love the other one better although the pose here is also nice.

A great portrait Rolly! Kharu has amazing presence but your work as the photographer is outstanding. Light, sharpness, background, metering! all perfect. I wish I'd done one as good as this!!

Attractive model and pose. The lighting is a matter of taste as, for me I like the slightly subdued lighting in the workshop by gmonkeh. although this onne also works. Luis

i'd rather choose not to use meter and flash. natural light gives better realism to a subject especially when using it here. this might be useful in a portraiture (like studio).

Metering is always important whether using a flashmeter or built in meter of the camera body, it determines the proper exposure and the acceptable effects you need. Shooting in portraiture, commercial, advertising and even industrial, metering is one of the deciding factors for a successful photo.

Some hot spots could be prevented by using a translucent material or a white sheet cloth, soft box would be better, because this would make the light diffused and soft which is good for the skin tone, sa madaling salita suwabe and tama ng ilaw. Put a hairlight, to separate her from the background. Try using reflectors too. These are few essential elements for a successful portrait images.
