Bells On Logs
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
| These are the old bells of the Carillon belltower resting on old logs. I took this image when they were renovating the structure. I did a little sharpening and cropping to limit the color palette. The sky was completely overcast and I hope the mood of the image depicts a certain melancholy. I noticed that most of the images that I took lately are in a way have a feeling of loneliness and I think its because I shoot alone most of the time. Maybe this image reflects the solitude I was in. I exposed this image by spot metering and took a reading of the bells and underexposed it by one stop. I want to use a warming filter in particular image but the overcast sky has accented the image, in my opinion at least. Images do tell a story....... |

Hi Leander
Technically you've done your homework for this shot; the bells are placed in a strong part of the frame, with effective lead-in of the logs.
Unfortunately the resolution isn't too good, I can see you've tried to sharpen it but the bells themselves don't look properly in focus, while the background is probably too much in focus. The concrete slab doesn't really add much to the shot either; I can't help thinking there was a better POV to be found for this.
I do find your note very readable and helpful though - if a little glum. :)
I also admire very much your use of a film camera, it's refreshing indeed.
This is on the UP campus?
