A few days ago Philippines got hit by tropical strom Frank (Fengshen) which claimed close to 1000 lives so far, 35768 houses destroyed, and 69606 damaged. I took this shot in Bantayan Island last March, which was one of the areas badly hit by the storm. My thoughts are with the poor people who lost their properties and crops ... fortunately, no lives were lost in the island. I just wonder if the settlement in this photo was able to survive the storm. But Filipinos are resilient people ... I'm sure we'll recover from this catastrophe with the help of God.

Hello Renier,

This is a fine image and a useful reminder that man cannot control nature, not yet and probably never..!
I'm sad on behalf of the people in Northern Cebu and Panay, not to talk about the horrible ferry disaster...
But life will go on, like it always did -

Greetings,
Pablo -

Hello Renier. Brilliant conversion in this stunning landscape. I like the contrast and saturation making the sky looking dark with thin cloud. Sharp focus and brilliantly composed. Thanks for sharing and best regards. Jusni

I do remember this place. I also rented a bike here hoping to get lost. Too bad about the typhoon! Very lovely, looks like an IR image. Best regards, Danilo

Nicely composed wide angle image and B/W conversion. The format of the image matches the somber feeling of the tragedy.
Thanks,
Wilt

Hi Renier,

I have tried B&W landscpaes and I wondered how you can make island life seems good in B&W - but you obviously can. What is your secret - higher contrast or making sure that white really stands out?
Whatever, you can share a good result.
Thanks
Els

Hello Renier.
This Black and White photo, give a good tone of the desaster what came over the islands.
Hopefully they will all recover of it soon.
Thanks for posting.

Stunning landscape in B&W!

Superb!

Kissses from Italy!!

Hi Renier. Gorgeous image which, as a B&W conversion, shouldn't really work as well as it does because the original version must have some amazing colours - and yet it dies. I'm sure you must have used a polariser and it's really done the trick for you. Stunning image. Paul.

Hi Renier, Good composition with the curved beach and the boat as key subject. The houses are certainly close to the sea when the storms come by. TFS. Murray.
PS I would like to see this in colour also as WS perhaps.

Hi Renier,
Wonderful clarity and and subperb sharpness to the tranquil bit of tropical paradise.
The black and white treatment fits very well here as this landscape appears much as it did 100 years ago
Regards, Tom
