[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Hi Folks,

Let’s take a short break from our Entomology class about the tiny red weaver ants and go through briefly a note from a History class about a great hero.

Posted here is an image of statues of a firing squad executing a Filipino nationalist hero, Jose P. Rizal (on the left. See his bust in WS).

This is the exact spot in Luneta, Bagumbayan Field (now Rizal Park) in Manila where he was executed at 7.03am December 30th 1896, after the reading of the Court sentence at 6.00am a day before.

The site, a part of the memorial park, is regularly visited by both local and foreign tourists. During a visit by school children recently, a guide narrated a citation about their hero and ended it by counting One…Two…and firecrackers were fired from the tip of the guns for a more dramatic effect, resembling the execution…and there fell their martyr.

I could only capture the smoke…not the sound of the guns.

For more info about this Filipino hero, please refer here.

Thanking you in advance for viewing and your kind words.

Agoes

Nice work Agoes, really like the composition specially the smoke. Thanks for paying attention to our national hero. I hope you enjoy your trip in there.

Interesting image, and a good note to go with it. I like the use of the fire crackers to bring life to the scene. Photographically it's a decent record shot of the place, further enhanced by the smoke.

Hello Agoes.
Can almost hear the shot.! Well catured.
Looks very dramatic, wonder why the 'artist' put he victim with its back to the squadron. ?
Hard to believe they did it that way.

Really good composition, making the most of the light to give the statues a bright look, and the inclusion of the smoke really brings the scene to life.

hi Agoes

Interesting to find the sculpture especially on green grass, as compared to live performance using real costumes. The smoke makes the scenery more realistic, and it enhanced the green color from your POV here.

I like the capture of bright light while some of them are kept in shadow.

No stray bullets coming your way?

tfs, bill

Hi Argoes, Amazing reproduction especially with the smoke you have added. Two things are remarkable, the fact he is not facing the men with guns and the timing of what is happening a few hundred km away earlier today. Good scene well presented. Thanks for the lesson in history. TFS. Murray.
