This is a souvenir of our trip to St. Petersburg in May 2004 that I have had sitting on my computer for some time. I never posted it before because of this post on TrekEarth which somehow seemed to make this view superfluous. But on the other hand I feel that this gives a better impression of architecture of that most stupendous of baroque palaces where Catherine the Great lived and ruled, and where the Amber Room can again be visited. The Amber Room was dismantled and stolen by the nazis during the occupation and the siege of Leningrad during the Second World War - and later disappeared. It has now been restored to its former glory over a period of more than thirty years. The palace is situated in Pushkin which is about 25 kilometers outside St. Petersburg. A visit is highly recommended.

I see now the other one was on TE. I left a detailed critique there. This one is from a different angle or maybe the other one is just cropped. I like the linear effect here. This one is stunning. The other one breathtaking.
I looked again. It's a different angle. Ok you know that. The difference. The other one is dramatic. I love dramatic.
Hoj Per,
I can imagine that you often looked at this picture and now finely decides still to post it despite the other picture. But this one has other very special qualities. The strong repetition in the facade. The beautiful golden towers well places on the right side and the white statue in front at the right side. This all makes it a excellent composition.
groet Rob
Excellent POV, it really adds to the perspective. The colours balance very well and the statue forms an interesting "visual couple" with the cupolas.
I would be interested to see a wider version, if you have one. That is, a photo where the building doesn't cover as much part of the picture
What beautiful architecture and colours Per, it is a really great composition. The gardens in the foreground accentuate the formality and structure of the buildings. The gold minarets are the finishing touch. Very well done.
Cheers, Joan
