I took this photo at the Winter Palace, the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, Russia. I like the way the light came through the windows to illuminate the Greek statues.

The State Hermitage occupies six magnificent buildings situated along the embankment of the River Neva, right in the heart of St Petersburg. The leading role in this unique architectural ensemble is played by the Winter Palace, the residence of the Russian tsars that was built to the design of Francesco Bartolomeo Rastrelli in 1754-62. This ensemble, formed in the 18th and 19th centuries, is extended by the eastern wing of the General Staff building, the Menshikov Palace and the recently constructed Repository.

Put together throughout two centuries and a half, the Hermitage collections of works of art (over 3,000,000 items) present the development of the world culture and art from the Stone Age to the 20th century. (hermitagemuseum.org)

Thanks for the picture of this, I was actually reading about it just recently but didn't see any current pictures of it, just old sketches. Great shot! Thanks for sharing.

Hello Alli !

St Petersburg is a fantastic place to visit I heard from many Russian captains. It would be better in May or June for the longer days although to enjoy the scenery better. I love this vertical shot, with perfect framing and title. Very classic. It suits well your lovely picture. Very good compo as this satue seems to watch the others.

Looking forward discovering your next uploads.
cheers!
Robert

Isn't that just a fantastic museum? Went there two years ago. But you could have used a perspective corretion tool with great succes on this one. In spite of the nice subject and the nice light there are some disturbing slanted lines that would look more majestic if they were vertical.
