The Intercession Cathedral on the Moat, which in the last couple of centuries became better known as St. Basil's Cathedral, was built in 1555-1561 by Tsar Ivan IV (the Terrible) in fulfillment of a vow, "because the Lord entrusted him, the sovereign, with the Kingdom of Kazan".
By its architectural design, the St. Basil Cathedral comprises nine individual churches each crowned by a unique tower. The main church of the Mother of God is in the middle and 8 chapels crowned with onion domes positioned around the central form an eight-pointed star. This symbolizes the supremacy and protection of the Mother of God over all the Orthodox Church and over the Russian lands.
With all the majesty of its external appearance, the cathedral is quite small within. Regrettably, the spectacular interior of St. Basil's Cathedral was badly damaged during its long history by numerous fires and wars. On this picture you can see the interior of gallery (one of corridors which make a circle around the central tower and bind all chapels together) between the Chapels of the Intercession of the Virgin (main, central tower, entrance gates on the left wall) and Saints Cyprian and Justina (entrance gates on the right wall). The walls of the cozy corridor were covered with delicate floral designs at late 17th century, and restored by Briagin in 1930s.
I took this picture in 2005 with my first digital camera Olympus C5060WZ using extra wide angle conversion lenses by Raynox which I bought before to make special pictures indoors. I was very disappointed by the quality of its conversion, how it worked (huge perspective distortion and blur on the edges of pictures. So, after this experiment I didn't used this lenses.. pity about the money I spent on it... but life is life... I tried to correct a little bit here the perspective distortion (still exists, but to improve verticals more course cropping an image and distortions in horizontal.. you know), , sharpeness and, of course levels. I like very much old chandeliers here, hope you too. Enjoy!

The onion domes of St Bazils are quite outstanding. I even recognized them on TV a few months ago after seeing your photos on your TE site Arthur. . . I hope you'll be showing them on TL too.
Beautiful old lights and the flowered walls are very attractive too. Would they be plastered like this?
Interesting to see, TFS
