[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I posted recently almost the same picture on TE "Interior of Dormition Cathedral", but today my friend and repeat client from Canada pointed out that on her monitor it looks a tiny bit crooked.. I checked it again, and yes, it has some distortions. Of course, I could correct it in Photoshop but I would loose some details on the edges, BUT fortunately I found the shot, which was made before, and it is more straighter. I was in hurry to post the first picture with interior of this cathedral and choose not the best one. As usual, if I think that the picture can be pretty good, and, of course, if I have time, I try to make several shots, so you can see, that in this case it helps a lot. Also, I started to take pictures in RAW format and can control white balance, tones and exposure on my computer. This is very important especially if you take a picture with hard light conditions or have not much time to tune perfect all camera's characteristics for current shot. Now you can compare two shots which I made with interval 14 sec, but here I also tried to make more warm tones: Hope you like.

Description from my previous picture on TE:

After the end of the wars agains Tartars and the victory over the kingdoms of Kazan and Astrakhan, the tsar Ivan IV (The Terrible), who had a particular veneration for St. Sergius of Radonezh, bagan building a large and beautiful church on the grounds of the Holy Trinity St. Sergius Lavra dedicated to the Dormition (Assumption) of the Mother God (Virgin Mary), a copy of the main cathedral of Moscow Kremlin. This impressive big church with beautiful cupolas (domes) had been on construction about 26 years (1559-1585) and was finished only after the death of the first Russian tsar.

The maginificent frescoes of this Cathedral were created in 1684 (in 1 century after the building was erected) by 35 painters in a 100 days (about 3 moths). The frescoes cover the area of 500 square meters and some of them you can see on right and left colums on this picture. On the background here you can see very tall, 5-tier iconostasis (a screen with icons deviding the sanctuary from nave) which consists of 76 icons dated back to the 16th-17th centuries. The celebrated seventeeth-century painter Simon Ushakov, the royal icon painter, took part in the creation of the iconostasis.
In the Dormition Cathedral there are two shrines with the holy relics of St. Filaret (Drozdov, 1867), placed near left column, and St. Innokenty (Veniaminov, 1879), placed near right column, Metropolitans of Moscow.

Hello Arthur, you show us such a magnificent looking interior of the Cathedral. All the glitter of those ornate golden items and candelabras too. I can see the frescoes too - they look so beautifully done. What a place to visit!!
Thank you for sharing this with us - it is really very interesting to see,

Arthur,
What a maginficient place this is. And I suppose we are not looking at some nice gold plated stuff either! When I look at these magnificient places that you have shown us so beautifully, I wonder what happened in 1917 for this culture to turn completely the other way just like that.
