Hazy Shade of Winter

The Novodevichy Convent is a miniature Kremlin south of Red Square. It dates from the 16th Century and is a protected monument by UNESCO. Full restoration of the many buildings on the site is underway. This is the Cathedral of the Virgin of Smolensk. Construction began in 1524 by Basil III. Napolean's troops tried to blow up the convent but a popular story tells the tale that the nuns snuffed out the fuses.
It was a cold morning yesterday and the birch trees added just the right touch of texture. Minor levels tweaks, tight cropping and a little USM. |

Your Russian trip is producing some excellent shots David and this is another. Great composition, love the way you have muted the colours by use of the branches. Well done.

Very interesting point of view. The building in the background almost looks like a painting. Seems to me that there's a bit of tilt to the left. Still, good work!

This is a really good and symbolic shot. I really like the composition and the mixture of shades.
