[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Every time I see St Basil's in Red Square I am blown away. Finished in 1561 it was commissioned by Ivan the Terrible. The place has been undergoing cleaning and renovation for years but yesterday it was in its glory.

The ever-present steam from a power plant across the river adds a bit of drama.

I went for an odd crop to maximize the drama of the church. I tweaked the levels and raised the highlights and shadows to give it a bit of an unearthly feeling. I used USM at 130 per cent (1.7 pixels) to add texture.

Another successful Russian picture David, Love what you have done here the silhouettes in the foreground and the misty domes in the far distance. Great composition and great capture. Well done.

No an odd crop at all. I would say it is a very nice crop which enhances the drama and add focus and intrest. Framing can really enhance a composition, just as it has done here.

Hi David, you made an excellent job! I love the contrast between people and the Basil. Very good composition! Congratulation!

This is fantastic. It could tell a story on it's own, as if the spectators are watching it on fire ... which is what I originally thought!
Amazing contrast, and like you said in your note, the chosen crop does maximise the drama.
Well done.

bye....tanbinh.

Great ! The ambiance is really there. It makes me remeber this scene is the movie Armagedon, when the crew is walking towards their destiny. See what I mean ?

Excellent title for this photograph...I really like the composition and post-process...

This is very well done. You've added a different perspective to a very well known monument. Great job!

wow! amazing shot David.. i absolutely agree about St Basils.. one of the most extraordinary buildings in the world and i've always longed to see it.. your picture is brilliant! one of those the thumbnail cant do justice to.. gorgeous composition and framing of the cathedral by the arch and the way everyone seems in silhouette is stunning... and that cloud of steam! certainly does add loads of drama... terrific work! ^_^ - Ayda

Les personnages avancent comme hypnotique vers cette Cathédrale St Basils sortie toute droite d'un conte des mille et une nuit Moscovite... très belle prise ... bravo!

Hi David !
This photo is a beauty !
It could be the cover of a magazine ...
Congrats.
Sylvie

I loved the pp work on this one!!! There's an amazing light in the photo that I think is one of the strongest points in your composition! Very good work!!
Points later ok??
Ana

Beautiful composition and colours. Very good contrast between the people and the background. It's a pity that the arch isn't complete. Maybe it's better now to wipe it out. (see WS)

Its wonderful picture...words has less meaning!

Very nice sllhouettes and atmisphere!!!
The title adds a magic feeling... perfect!

I really don't need to say anything about this photo... 'cause everything was said. Glorius, Excellent, Powerfull...

Great shot David! Some of my favourite photos are taken into the sun. You have used this to great effect and have enhanced the depth of the shadowed areas with your tweaking. Well done.

Very strong image, strong contrasts, shadows, silhouettes and great lighting effect.
Very well done!

while the people are in first plan has one
I shine perfect.

Inspired! (There's a pun there somewhere if I only knew where). The background would stand alone as a finished image but the inclusion of the people adds so much. You're an ace!

david,
great light here, the silhouettes work well.none of them look back, captured nicely and naturally.the cropping added the compo in my opinion.
regards

well.......
simply........AMAZING picture, great PP work and very strong mood...

A superb backlight shot, and whatever you cropped out, the result is very nice in all its symmetry. The PP work is very interesting and reminds me that USM can indeed be used to many purposes. I wonder how it would have looked had you also saturated the colours a bit more.

Hi David
beautiful work
great details na nice effect

A wonderful photograph - it works on so many levels. St Basil's washed out and looming is excellent, the back lit people and the steam with the framing arch - excellent.
James

Excellent photo. Perhaps the top of the arch should be visible.

Hi David !
I'm impressed!
