[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Another cold morning along the Moskva River when the winter sky harkens back to another time. Moscow is an ageless city no matter which landmarks are in view. This is the Ukraina Hotel built at the height of Soviet prestige by Joseph Stalin. In a city dominated by onion domes and drab architecture, Stalin built several structures like this to put his mark on the city. They call it "Stalin Gothic."

Add in the Russian winter and the early morning cold which can take your breath away and you are transported back to another time.

I added a bit of red in the channel mixer and a tweak in USM. I raised the lower light levels in the sky to add contrast.

I'm headed home tomorrow after a week here in Moscow. It's been wonderful but I'll be happy to be on the plane in the morning.

You seem to have some great memories captured with your camera David. This is a cracker, beautiful composition and great atmospheric low light. Seems a wonderful place to take pictures, and you have some great pictures to bring home. Well done.

Yes, Moscow. We know in the East-Europe the russians, but for us is Moscow a mystic town, too. Great picture, nice red color.

That is really the cold Russia as I could imagine it ! I like the sun in the sky,it gives hope and some serenity compare to the rigidity of the government building.Nice composition!

Another excellent shot of Moscow, with a great light and a nice POV. I did a bit of cropping in a workshop to tighten the building slightly. Still, great job!

Beautiful early evening shot, David. I love the hues of the sky. I also love the gradient layer of detail in the building, high details in the left part and slowly lessening to darkness in the right part.
Excellent capture, and very good enhancement in PP. Thanks for sharing (TFS).

very nice picture... i like your view...

The Stalin Gothic, is not only present in Moscow. The Palace of Culture, stands in Warsaw, and is created in the same architecture. I can't say many people like it, and I'm certainly one of them but it seems to have its greyish, boorish, thing to it.

Great photo by the way. I love the way you were able to capture and contrast the shadow and light, of course the beautiful sky is also something interesting!

Thanks for sharing
-Bart
