[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This snap of a Rhea has been added to my Birds theme.

Taken in Jurong Bird Park, back in March.

"Rheas are polygamous, with males courting between two and twelve females. After mating, the male builds a nest, in which each female lays her eggs. The male incubates from ten to sixty eggs; the chicks hatch within 36 hours of each other. The females, meanwhile, may move on and mate with other males. While caring for the young, the males will charge at anyone — including humans and female rheas — who approaches the chicks.

Rheas are omnivorous, preferring broad-leafed plants, but also eating seeds, roots, fruit, insects, and small vertebrates.

Rheas have only three toes. This is an adaptation which allows them to run faster than if they had four."

Beutiful shot. Even the skin on his head is clear, darned if I would want to get to close to the owner of that eye at any time. TFS

Hi Richard.
Not the most attractive bird, but a very good portrait nonetheless.
This would have been a great candidate for Trek Nature (where I post most of my shots)
The compositon and details are good here, but there does seem to be a certain amount of UV glare. It kind of 'bleaches' out the original colour a bit,and creates haziness.
I find that after shooting in bright sunlight I often have to reduce the blue factor in post processing to avoid this.
(I've done a wee workshop to show you what I mean ... hope you don't mind)
Cheers,Steve

Hey Richard, saw this and had to laugh, no not because it was funny, but what it made me think of. The photo is wonderful, clear, defined, great dof.
It was the patch of missing hair (any idea why?)that was funny, as made me think of male pattern baldness lol

The eye....the eye......very piercing! I would be afraid for MY eye the way he is looking! Nice detail, excellent sharpness!
