Nearing the last hour sun of that day, the light got better and better.
I have to say that this is the first time I've actually been using the D200 to make close-ups of flowers! I don't have so much experience in it, so I just gave it a go. It does look easy, but I have to admit now that it isn't. I think that I can throw away 70% of the closeups, but it was a great exercise!
The Orchid Gardens house over 60,000 different plants and a coolhouse with orchids from the cooler climates. It's certainly worth a look if you're in the neighbourhood and together with the Botanic Gardens one of the best places to get out of the traffic of the city.
Technical note:
Looking at the shot, I would think myself that the saturation was increased - but it wasn't! Think the intensity of the colours has to do with the polarizer and the nice low light at that moment. Only a slight USM and contrast adjustment done. |

Hi Dennis!
Really good shot! I like the colour and unsharp green background. I think you could crop some in right side but no problem. Good picture from you.Jorgen
Hi Dennis,
Since your BG has it's own charm I don't directly see the need for cropping - give the flower some breathing space.
I know from experience that flower photography is difficult. In the old days I could make the nicests of close up; however with my SLR camera I'm just not totally there and satisfied. If this was a school grade you would get a 8-. (I always felt happy getting 6'es.:)

Very nice composition with very lovely flower. Very good separation from bg thanks to colours and high bg blur. Overexposition on petals is an issue though. tfs

Hi my friend,
Beautiful capture of the flower. The DOF is just marvelous and the details and sharpness of the image is superb.
