Snapped this morning at Jurong Bird Park in Singapore as Wee Hannah Banana was gazing thoughtfully at a Shoebill.

After gazing thoughtfully at it for a while, she turned and said "That's a grumpy bird, Daddy - it looks like you!". HUMPH! ;-)

I wasn't happy with the image I posted yesterday, but I am pretty happy with this one - it captures an element of her nature, I think. And I like the slight noise in the shot, brought out when the image was brightened...it's an effect I was after and I think it adds a little something.

Shot in RAW, converted to b/w, slight RGB adjustment, jpeg conversion, brightened/contrast adjusted resized and sharpened. No crop.

Hi Richard,
Altough the pose is perfect and very addoring I think the sharpness could be better appearantly you focused on Hannah's hair . Due the low F-stop (f/2.8) the DOF is narrow, while the shutter time is extremely short too(1/1000) So the DOF is so narrow, the left eye, nose and throat are quite blurry. In my opinion this portrait can be improved by increasing the f-stop (f/8 and up).
So my friend, in contradiction of the tradition of the Kilted; still two points to ecourage you, I can't stand crying Scotts :-) And you know the whole point system of TL is a fake anyway :-)

Hi Richard,

Very cute girl . . Beautiful portrait . . Just miss the highlight on her face, it maybe due to speed too high . . I learn this from Haldian when we met to discuss my pictures . .
I like the composition and presentation in B&W . .

Did you feel earthquake last Wed evening? I have terrible experience at my office, but I am OK . .

Tfs,
Tjutjut

Thoughtful cutie captured well. TFS. K2

Hi Richard,
Super shot, IMO the only thing I would have done differently would have been to focus on the eyes, I bet you ain't been called grumpy before HeHe.
Well done mate
Tfs Andy

Ahhhh kids , they have a wonderful way to express their true thoughts. Sometimes in an ebarassing way (^_^).

Cool story and soft portrait. Perhaps here the focus should have been more on her eyes than her hair. But , I like the way she his staring at the strange and impressive shoebill. Good choice to show it in B&W.

Cheers!
Robert

Hey Richard - I read the others comments, funny thing about the focus they suggest it be sharper, but I like it as is, it captures a specfic moment in time, which you have noted, it was a candid shot and choice of B&W adds to the soft effect/mood.
So remain happy with this one, as it is your daughter ...

Hi
Very nice portrait...So lovely...

Hi Richard, nice shot this one, yes the focus is on the fringe BUT it puts the face in soft focus and works extremely well with this deep in thought pose.
Nice work,
Neil.
p.s. - good choice for her name - and I call mine Hannah Banana too (amongst other things!)

A well observed moment finely portrayed and thus fixed forever! I like how you've caught her intensely observing something, i.e. that bird. And laughed at her comment. You've got a good sense of humour, I must say! - TFS! Cordelia :)))
PS: Your sweet Hannah Banana must be one entertaining child. And like here peers, doesn't beat around the bush much, does she?!

Another excellent portrait! Your girls are little dolls (but I guess you already know that :) Very nice in b&w. Fantastic expression. TFS

Hi Richard...nice portrait of this young girl. I like the pose and the angle which you chose...good work.
