The third in my series of snaps from my time with May.

When going through my shots with May I have picked the ones where she looks most feminine for posting. That was her request and to do otherwise would be a betrayal of her trust.

On my previous image a user commented "The story is almost believable!".

Doing this shoot took a lot out of me emotionally and was a great photographic and personal learning process. To thereafter be called a liar, albeit in characteristically sly innuendos, I find deeply offensive.

Back to the image itself - I have included a "full body" version in a workshop. I prefer the crop I have posted but would be very grateful for other opinions on the two shots.

Shot in RAW, brightness/contrast adjustment, white balance adjusted, cropped, resized, jpegged, sharpened, Neat-Imaged.

I really like this one! It's less 'contrived' (couldn't think of a better word, doesn't quite have the positive spin I wanted but it'll have to do) than the other two, it's very natural and real, as is her smile and pose.

Possibly could have used a quicker shutter speed, the image is a little light, but sharpness and overall light are excellent.

I guess it takes a base kind of empathy to say something we know will hurt another person. It takes a higher kind of empathy to say nothing in return, and let the hurt pass. From what you have written about her, May has honed her skills in the latter to a dazzling degree; there is no bitterness in that smile at all. Thank you for capturing it so well!

Hi Richard,
I have looked at all 3 sofar of this series and my personal choice would be this one, I think you were right to crop the shot looking at the workshop version, May stands out well from the Background and thats good as I think the background is quite busy with the strange but interesting shapes.
As you know I am no portrait photographer but I think for this series you have excelled in both your photography and your personal quest for a good picture.
Well done my friend
Regards Andy

Richard
Ditto comments from the other images of May, with the addition that I like her facial expression on this one a lot. If I have to choose my favorite. #2 still. You have done a fantastic job of all them and your notes and thoughts are very well expressed. Thanks for this lovely series.

Oh, to have a body like that! The LEGS!! THE LEGS!! what I would pay to be that thin again! She is gorgeous! Very nice natural smiling pose! And anyway, liking a pic is a matter of opinion and we each get our own. So if someone doesn't like it, so what? You will find that most folks do and the ones that don't can eat cake! HAHAHA! If a critique can't be said in a dignified way, it needs to not be said.....but THAT's just MY opinion...which means nothing! HA!
Good shot Richard!*** Oh and I REALLY like the WS better...lighting is lower, I love the legs all the way to the floor! I would not have chopped off those lovely legs....those feet...those feet! ***ahhhhhh....

She is beautiful and you captured her well. I do like this cropped pic more than the full view. Beautifully captured portrait and amazing smile. TFs

I would have to say that this is my favorite. I like her smile. She appears very happy, so who are we to judge? I like the ws as well. You really captured her personality. TFS

She is, again, wonderfully natural but this time the BG is distracting for me. I preffer the previous ones

Hello Richard!

I have to repeat myself here , without being too flattering to you and your model. But she is really at ease in front of the camera. Hats off to you for this great mood, as you are ultimately the guy who set it up, and make her relaxed

Here I have two diametrical opposite opinions. First the subject. Excellent focus , light and mood . Top marks.

About the composition, Well here, honestly the background is not very helpful, and somehow too distractive, even if her smile is shining here. I would definitely have opted for another background , or have worked it with PP.

When , we take portraits, it is difficult to think of everything , but if you find yourself the spot . Try to remember these tips.

As my English is not technically good: I would suggest you to visit the Kodak website here for the 10 top tips

I try to apply them as often as possible. Althought it is not physically possible, depending on what on when I am shooting.

Keep on experimenting Richard !

Robert

Hiya Richard

Sorry I missed this one yesterday, another superb capture, lovely smile and nice relaxing posture... thats for the main image.. now the workshop.. basically I think you were absolutely right to crop the shot exactly as you did, I am going to be right on the cuff here and say that in the workshop she looks a touch ungainly and her feet look out of balance as they are not small. I dont mean to be rude in anyway about that. From your notes it says she wanted to be portrayed in a feminine manner and you have done that absolutely spot on.

So to sum up,, absolutely superb, it sounds that you were given a brief and have done the job spot on. I would imagine May to be very pleased when she sees these images

Fab work Richard

TFS regards Helen

Unlike your two previous shoot of her, I think this is less stronger. I am not saying that you didn't do it good because you can overcome the harsh light on the BG. And you still able to positioned her where her dress really makes her stand out.

Yan

Good color, great focus. I think a pov with the 'v' is interesting, odd kind of way for them to make streetlights (I assume). Good model choice, she looks lively and intelligent. TFS

Hello Richard
Good shot of a pretty girl just wonder if a crop to exclude some of the distraction on the left would help? but thats personal taste
