Earlier today I had another get-together with May.

I was at work, but was pretty quiet as it is Chinese New Year so took a longish lunch and May and I had a wander around Boat Quay, with me taking a few shots as we went. I think this was the most comfortable session we've had and May, as you can see, was looking good :-)

She seemed more relaxed and I was a little more at ease as well. Boat Quay was busy given the holiday, but we just did our thing.

Again, my remit is only to publish images where May looks as she wants to look - very feminine. I think this shot meets that goal.

ISO was at 400 - doh! I didn't change after doing some shots inside. Shot on aperture priority at f2.8 which was also wrong - hence the 1/8000 shutterspeed. (note to self: stop being an idiot, remember to change settings...)

Focal length 70mm :-)

Shot in RAW, slight tweaks to brightness/contrast and white balance changed. Cropped, jpegged, resized, sharpened.

Good morning Richard.. well between the two of you this series has become a resounding sucess. I love this image, she looks like a movie star and very feminine. The balance of the shot is excellent with her just off centre. The image is bright with good colour and excellent DOF. I also love the detailing on the railings on the bridge and the shadow on the path... A classy walkway for a classy looking lady.

Lovely work

TFS regards Helen

Hi Richard,

Another great shot of May with a nice breezy sunny feel too it.
As Helen said she looks like a film star.

Cheers

Hi Richard,

Great action Photo. She pose for you very well, walking down the pavement like walking down the stage in her catwalk..i love the POV and her action... but a bit OE (IMO) but i might be wrong also in this..but overall the capture of this model is fantastic..You did May proud by displaying her feminism and beauty with your photo.

even if was in high iso, you've still managed to capture her beautifully and elegantly with those curves... contrasting the black dress against the white railings and frames of some bridge(?)..... well, good thing there's raw! tfs

Magnificent candid shot Richard,
It has a great care free and fun excitement to it.
Probably due the expression you caught.

Wow, the outside sun light is hitting her perfectly and you resolved th skin tone so well. Love the design cerated by the shadows of the bridge rail.

Excellent shot.

Wondering that you upload such a picture because you are against femine pictures ???

hi richard;
natural lights and girl,nice backgroun,relaxed cute smile..like a fashion shot.succesful.tfs.

Hi Richard,

Nice feel to this shot, well of course your model is gorgeous and I would say your so called mistake was actually spot on, the speed froze her completely and 2.8 blurred the background accentuating your lovely model.

She really IS a beauty Richard! I love this one! A perfect fashion shot, very relaxed! Not easy to shoot a moving target. Really nice the railing to the left, leading your eye straight to her! And I've NEVER thought you were against women, or female shots at all. Have no idea what Hopsy is talking about!

Hi Richard,

Great shot! Wonderful pic of May, she is so naturel and relaxed.

Greetings
Arox

Hi Richard,
Great work and May is looking more relaxed in this shot than in some of your previous work, maybe she has got more used to you and the camera, I think the f2.8 and ISO mistake have turned out well, there is no noise and the background is nicely Out Of Focus, on a slightly critical side I think that the Balck hair is not defined from the Black shirt though there is nothing that could be done about that and the white on the right of the bridge is Overexposed, maybe being a little too picky if the shot had been taken a couple of steps back you wouldn't have had May standing on the manhole.
Well done
Regards Andy

Hi Richard

Well to start with - it's a lovely shot. Natural, well composed - nice off-centre placement of May, effective lead-in of the bridge railings. Good depth of field.

Re: the aperture, ISO etc. I'm forever forgetting to adjust settings to you don't have any exclusive hold on that title, I'm afraid. Really the only drawback is that the exposure is slightly high on her forehead - but that actually has more to do with the angle of her face: as nice as it is, I think if she lost the sunglasses and turned her face towards the camera it would be a more interesting and enjoyable portrait.

There is something a little masculine about the thumbs hooked into the skirt; better for her arms to be relaxed by her side as she walks.

As always, I'm being picky, and you wouldn't expect anything less. The great thing is that you have a willing model who is good to work with, and the ONLY way to keep improving is to keep practicing.

And - tell May she looks lovely!

Rew

Hi Richard, I think this is the best of her to date, has a lot of pizzazz about this setting and shot. It seems to be a good learning curve for all concerned. Congratulations on this ine. Murray.

Hi Richard,

Perfect! . . Excellent setup with white at the surrounding . . She stands out . .
I like her natural action - while walking, and captured beautifully . .
People at the back just watching two of you enjoying the holiday . .
Well done my friend . .
Just want to know, how much does it cost for 5D in Singapore?

Tfs,
Tjutjut

Many thanks for your kind words on ONE YEAR with TL .

Nice relaxed pose with good composition. My only real criticism would be that teh railings on the right of the shot are a little overexposed, but I am just nitpicking. Oh, and I know what you mean about the camera settings; I'm forever taking shots in bright sunlight with the white balance set to "tungsten lamps" and the ISO at 1000 ...
Cheers, John.

Wow nothing to say Richard. She is stunning man. This is a very effective composition. What I like the most is the good light exposure here. No shadow at all. This is a well executed one. Love it. Sothy

Tom:)

This is one of the best, for sure !

thanks,
v
ps.I'll be back

Hi Richard,

I feel your pain. I say the same to myself all the time- "either use your brain or exploit the capabilities of these modern marvels- change the setting!"

Of course, with May, the settings don't seem to matter all that much. :-))

Randy

Hi Richard, she is really a lovely girl, good composition with wonderful light and colors, excellent perspective, very well done, ciao Silvio

i like dynamic feel in the shot richard :)
i was trying shots like this...with the model walking, but i wanted the camera to be moving as well :) so i was walking backwards while firing the camera, it givs a panning like effect

i hav yet to get the speed and movment rite :) maybe you can try it sometime

koh

Hello Richard

You have captured a wonderful confidence in her gait. The lighting is very well handled.
