This shot was taken in the Asian Civilizations Museum here in Singapore, again with May as the model.

She is silhouetted against a slatted screen against which is projected a series of movie clips, I assume from Singapore films. To continue through the museum you walk through the screen itself, like a curtain.

This is an experimental shot for me. Had the camera on ISO 1600 and shot on aperture priority of f2.8 - camera then defaulted to 1/25. I kinda like the end result. I really don't believe that shots need to be technically perfect - or always all that good - to still be pleasing. Maybe this isn't to everyone's tastes and yes, a lot of faults can be picked out...but it is one I quite like.

ISO 1600, f2.8, 1/25 - handheld.

Shot in RAW, slight crop, b/w conversion, jpegged, resized, sharpened. No noise reduction.

Hi Richard, The journey of experimentation continues. This is quite similar to some photographic images i have seen in magazines, so it is definitely a proven format. I can't help thinking the frame is a little to congested and maybe two figures would have been sufficient. It is good to try these things. TFS. Murray.

Clever play of silhouette and reflection. Wonderful composition. I actully enjoy the grains from high ISO. In the digital age, photographers go out of their way to avoid digital noises. I do miss film grains from time to time. TFS.

Love b/w and I actually like grain :) or noise :).
But somehow, i found May is a little too dark on this Richard. I don't know if she was in the shadow area that time but wish her left side a little brighter.

yan

nice and artistic. good combination of black and grayscale. thanks for sharing richard.

This is one of the most experimental shots I've seen from you - and it challenges me.

I'm conservative, after all ... at least, as conservative as a lefty can be.

The idea is good. The technical execution, as you say, could be more in keeping with "the rules" but then it wouldn't be the shot it is. One thing I can't quite tell - is May facing the camera, or away from the camera?

Whew ... I can't say I like it (and if I'm not honest, all hope is lost, so I have to be honest.) But I can say I admire your willingness to step right out of that box and do something completely unexpected and different.

First, I would like to thank you for adding me to your fav; I'm very pleased.
Second I must say that I'm impressed by the very different one. Here I don't care about technical aspects at all. It's a thoughtprovoking and emotional photo and that's all the matter.

Hello Richard,

A very interesting experiment, I like this artistic result in BW. TFS

Kind regards,
Sorina

Hi Richard,
Good idea, good execution...
Like the B&W, or should say, the gray tones and love the grainy texture, guess from high ISO as well... TFS, Marta

Hi Richard,

Very stylish, this is a different picture of May she even makes a good sillohette! Great idea and I like the grainyness of it. it is a slight shame that she has a picture projected onto one arm, but all in all great experiment.

Cheers
Tom

Hi Richard. I like your composition and the contrast between the light and dark tones. Nice work.

Roger

Hi Richard,
Excellent catch with a poor light and she is taken very well in black in White, Nice silhouette and reflections great composition and very well done.

I gotta wonder...when I was a kid I hated sitting up in front row at movies but some people clamored for those seats...Too close..She must have a lack of neurons:-) Neat pic Kilt'er...Very editorial in nature and publishable as well.

Hey Richard:)
Another very good shot - it is different and kind of artistic look, I like it again:)
Tom

Hi Richard, I like this kind of photo very much, we don't have those adds here for me to be able to do this.

Well done!
Take care and thx for your crit :)

I would have liked May a STEP to the left.....just a little more off center. But I love this idea! I was wondering if I was looking at a screen or a curtain. The grainyness bothers me, but I think it's because of the screen! Very nice experiment Richard!
B-)
Linda

Hi Richard - Your experiment is successful, I'd say. The contrasts are good, including the invisible contrast between she-man May and those guys around her. I also like the graininess of the environment around her silhouette. Fine urban atmosphere! Well done! - Cordelia :))

PS: Thank you for your critique of my contribution to 'B & W outside'!

Update 12 Feb: Took out the section re cropping after deciding that your version is the better one.

He he he . . You have such a fine detail observation, and capture this moment very well . .
Lovely composition my friend . .
Well done Richard . .

Tfs,
Tjutjut

Many thanks for your kind words on King and the Guards .

I like this one Richard. I agree with you about the technical perfection (or lack of) and I think you're right, it adds to the effect here. I especially like the "film" grain you got with the high ISO setting. Well seen and shot.
Cheers, John.

Hi Richard

Nice double image here... love the BW conversion ... congrats

This reminds me of a movie house , Richard. I am not sure if I can describe what that means, but it is like being in a theater and the person walks between the projector and screen. Where the person viewing is in the dark and the subject is in the mixed light from the projector. I like it, in other words, or clearer words. I admire your ability to step out of the box.
Warm Regards
Wanda

Hi Richard, this one appeared on the front page this morning when I re logged in. I realise that it was taken at the start of your high ISO/BW/grainy journey but I like it. Nice lighter tones and the dark silhouette of your model still quite visible. A workshop if I may not as an improvement but an alternative,
Dave
