[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
A couple of nights ago I went back down to Clarke Quay with my friend and his girlfriend Ly. Ly brought along her friend, Hanh, and I took the chance to sneak in a few shots. Thankfully she didn't mind :-)

I'm trying to do more low light/high ISO photography, just some messing about.

As I was sitting with my drink, Hanh sat like this for a second, then moved...but I asked her to replicate the pose and I took some shots. Then I asked her to do it again as I'd screwed up the initial camera settings :-)

ISO 1250, f2.8, 1/50

Shot in RAW, wb adjusted, jpegged, slight crop, converted to b/w.

In the workshop I have posted a Neatimaged version...not sure which I prefer.

Hi Richard,
Hmm... hard to decide which one is my preference too. Both has it own strength and mood. If I have to, I may choose the neatimaged WS.

Beautiful Hanh in a lovely pose. I like the result of the well exposed shot here, Richard. Though I am not good in portrait, I can 'feel' the beauty of this... it looked interesting, especially the light and the dof. And, of course the subject herself.

Regards,
Ramdan.

Muy bello retrato, el B&W le dan un matiz especial.
Me parece que con algo más de profundidad de campo todo el rostro estaría en foco y ganaría esta imagen.
El fondo fuera de foco adorna y enmarca el retrato muy bien.
Felicitaciones Richard.
Saludos.

Hello Richard!

From a novice in portraits, I prefer this one. The WS is indeed more the type of images published in magazines with the filtered skin.

I like the mood , and super natural look of your model. Your composition is perfect to me. And despite the repeated pose, she still managed to keep a very pleasant attitude.

I like very much her look.
Well done !

Robert

PS. Enjoy the Aussie GP this weekend . Singapore GP is coming soon too.....
I am standing-by to enjoy the qualify session here .
Webber did well yesterday during Friday practice . Hopefully he won't choke during the GP, and please his Aussie fans.

Very nice! Very natural, beautifully composed and nicely sharp where it needs to be, especially with that slow shutter speed. Metering is perfect, I'm looking for OE and there's not a whisper of it. The glittery bokeh of the background works well too.

Neatimage schmeatimage, this is the version to post. She has great skin and here it's real, you've done a great job.

Compliments also to Hanh, she's beautiful her eyes especially are camera-friendly, there's a Hepburnesque quality.

Hello Richard,

Not always can a person replicate a natural pose. I think she did an excellent jos to pose for the camera and you took good advantage of it. The black and white rendering works fine to capture details and shadows. Sharpness is excellent and the placement of the subject very effective. Sh is a pretty girl indeed. THanks.

Rob

She looks like a professional model. Very pretty. Excellent capture of her; great lighting. Except for the too light small spots on the background that distract me a little. Are we going to see her in colors? TFS

Lorena

Hi Richard,
Both versions are very good but in my opinion this one is the better as it looks more natural and the slight noise for me anyway adds to the shot, I think your experiment with higher ISO should inspire more of us to try this as the picture is far better than one where a flash is used, maybe we will not all be gifted with such beautiful willing models though.
Well done
Regards Andy

Hi Richard,

What a successful portrait you have here. I love the sharpness of her eyes especially. Very relaxed pose with a nice expression.

I certainly hope that you made your friend a copy of this one.... She's beautiful. I think I prefer the workshop photo a tad more. Which workshop do you use? I've not seen Neatimage..

Enjoy your weekend, Lisa

Hi Richard, a very nice pose of her, very moody, what's she thinking of ?

I have seen the netimaged version and I think I like it better than original, thx for sharing, ari

Fabulous composition and I love the details in those long lashes.
I like the Neat Image on her skin but not on the rest of the capture
Fussy, ain't I?

Hi Richard, You have gained some good models as you werehoping too. This is a classic and being black and white will stand the test of time. Your portraits in the past 6 months have been on the rise. Good ambiance. TFS. Murray.

Hmmm, I prefer the FIRST version, the one posted here, because the smoothed out one does not look natural, except in magazines! This is more REAL, more natural and less contrived. Very nice pose here, I like that she isn't looking at you. Very nice Richard!

Excellent Richard, just goes to show that low light and high ISO does work...for some anyway. A very natural image, a lovely model, top work!
Dave

Hi Richard
Superb portrait, the catch lights in the eyes really lift this shot. I've had a look at the Neat Image version and I prefer this one, it looks a bit more raw
Regards Pez

Hi Richard,
Missed some of your postings last days. Sorry my friend. This is an excellent well balanced image with a fine pose of Hanh. Her dreamery glace is excellent captured unless the hard circumstances (f/2.8 and 1/50) so great camera handling (it hurt writing this ;-) Joking Rich, it's a wonderful posting, the choice for B&W is perfect.
