"All this talk of getting old
Its getting me down my love
Its getting me down my love
Like a cat in a bag, waiting to drown
Like a cat in a bag, waiting to drown
This time Im comin down
This time Im comin down

And I hope youre thinking of me

As you lay down on your side
And I hope youre thinking of me
Now the drugs dont work
As you lay down on your side
They just make you worse
Now the drugs dont work
But I know Ill see your face again"

(c) Richard Ashcroft, The Verve

"Though the exact meaning of the song is unclear, it is generally believed that composer Richard Ashcroft wrote the song in response to the death of his father to cancer [1], and is also thought to be influenced by his relationship with his wife, Ashcroft saying in an interview "to me, it's a lovesong"." {Wikipedia}

Here is the song on yourtube. Fantastic song, please have a listen...

Took this last night when I was out for a night of beer, pool and music with a mate. When the band came on I took the chance to sneak in a few shots with my new lens :-) "The Drugs Don't Work" was the song they were singing when I took this shot.

Shot in RAW, jpegged, cropped, converted to b/w, burnt out some background distractions, resized, jpegged.

ISO 3200, f2.8, 1/80

n.b. ISO 3200...I love my camera :-)

Wow 3200 iso! that's a pretty clean image, great light too hitting his right shoulder...
I love that song, as I do the Verve, so this was a great treat.
Well done.

LOVE the low light here Richard! And I also say ISO 3200??? How did you keep the grain out of it? Incredible sharpness here, really nice light hitting the tops of his fingers! Nice offcenter shot...I think my camera only goes to 1600 ISO and it was SO grainy!! ewwww....I'll have to post a shot I took of Niagara Falls, at night with ISO 1600 in your WS...gimme a minute..
B-)

Hi Richard,
...and me also, 3200!!?? with surprisingly very low noise level; considering such a high iso (which is a disaster and terrible grainy when applied with my old upgraded 300D :D).

The shot... another great B&W photo from you. The light, tone, singer's expression, and a ray to add drama... they are making this shot very interesting. Great indeed. TFS
Ramdan.

Hi Richard,

i was spending more time looking for any flaw of this shot than typing this critique.

to be exact, i was looking for grains or grainy in this picture - taken with a very high ISO - and i found none.

so i better wrap it up here....the shot is PERFECT! very well done.

TFS

Agoes

hi, richard
love the pic but not the song.

i am a country fan (shows what i know about music)

i have just one question;
if you are scottish then how did you manage to take a photo?
surely you had a lager in one hand and a hauf in the other?
(sorry, that's actually 2 questions)

I love the light on his hand !
Great photo, my friend.

thanks,

After reading everyone elses comments on this one I realize how little I know about photography :) What I DO know is that I like the picture very much, especially the lighting! And WHO in the hell is yokonga???? For someone who loves nature and pretty pink pictures its got me scratching my head why he would pick yours and mine today. :) Thanks so much for defending me, I certainly never thought I would offend anyone.

Nice lens! Nice sharpness and detail, well composed - nothing more to say really, this is a good shot and I really think you've found your niche!

I have seen this image several times and each time was certain that I had left a critique!!
Now, let me try again: The composition here works very well. And you've captured the musician deeply involved in his own art - a very fine posting
