Another snap of a White Tiger taken in Singapore Zoo earlier today. It's not that often you see them playing in the water - this morning we got lucky.

I believe these to be the most beautiful and impressive animals in the park. I could spend hours watching and photographing them...but the wee girls wanted ice-cream, so couldn't stay too long ;-)

Oh - a great book for kids is "The Tiger Who Came To Tea". Jessica demands I read it every night. Every...&*^!ing...night...

For 18 months.

For me, the appeal has diminished, but the kids seem to still like it ;-)

Shot in RAW, w/b adjusted, cropped, jpegged, resized, sharpened.

Handheld, camera resting on a fencepost.

ISO 200, f4, 1/200 - shot on 70-200mm I.S. with 1.4x extender.

I was really glad to see this shot, because I recognized immediately a problem I faced and could not find an answer to: the noise. High end gear, low ISO, and nevertheless considerable noise, very clearly visible in the entire area above the cat. Was this a very severe crop? If not, any idea regarding the source of the noise?
Otherwise, the shot is nice, with the reflection adding quite a bit to the overall appeal. It does seem to me that the image is slightly overexposed, and some of the areas on the head of the tiger have lost some detail. I like how, on this site dominated by world's best photographers you modestly introduce your images as "another snap". It is true that, given the gear, its technical quality could have been expected to be better.

Hi Richard
That sure is an impressive sight ! Beautiful composition and lovely sharp detail in the tigers face
Regards Pez

Very nice work. Good tones DOF and colours ... the reflection really is something special. I wonder if 1/200s was too slow, its face is almost too bright perhaps? But a minor detail - terrific capture really!

Hi Richard,
A crackin shot of this beautiful animal made all the better with him facing you, there seems to be a slight overexposure on the face though not too much, I really like the fact you have cropped tightly as it's all eyes on the subject and nothing to draw you away, you have also manage to catch a great reflection from you rfencepost POV.
I have done a small workshop to try and remove the slight OE.
Cheers
Andy

Hi Richard,
Wonderful picture of this very rare tiger. It appears a bit too bright to me though (see my WS), but the reflection is superb! The POV is excellent really a fine observation my friend, I really enjoy this image.

Very interesting, and just a little disconcerting, being directly stared at by those eyes. ;)
Slinking through the water, and the refection, as well as the little floating leaves, makes the shot very interesting.
I'm a bit curious why you chose not to pull the exposure down a notch or two and tame the whites a bit?
But, great capture of an intense moment.
TFS,
Wilt

Ooo your gonna be mad at me...but I love the shot, the comp is great, my first impression was that it was washed out, or not enough saturation...I know the TIGER is white, but his nose is pink, like other Tigers... So I drug this over to Photoscape to "deepen" the colors and provide contrasts... it's just a matter of opinion..please don't hate me!
B-)
Linda

Hi Richard..this is a nicely composed shot if this great animal...nice details and reflections.

Hi Richard.
I thought you had already left for your trip,so I am late on this one.
Fantastic shot of this beautiful animal,I like the distortion of the reflection and this affirms that cats do like water.

Hi Richard.
Firstly, I think you should take all the WS efforts as a great compliment. Obviously you have set up a relationship with people so that they know they can all comment and not be "hated". I used to think that taking photos in a zoo was cheating. I've since learned it's a great place to practice and it's not that easy. Animals move there too.
Nice composition and note. I have learned that there are some experts in PP out there and that I need to improve that area myself.
Thanks for the post. Karin

Such a beautiful, elegant animal. Yeah, I could watch them all day myself. The big cats really are something. And they behave much like the smaller cats is what always gets me.

Anyway, very nice picture! This was definitely an excellent capture, though I do agree it wasnt saturated enough. I do like Lindas workshop, I think it definitely improves it, but you made the shot my friend which is what counts!

Excellent work Richard!

-zeb

Hi Richard, A wonderful nature composition. The tiger in the water coming towards you like this is very powerful image. The reflected face and curled tail adds a lot also. A wonderful place to visit, especialy with a camera. TFS. Murray.

Hi Richard,
I like this, it's a great capture. I love the reflection and the expression on the face, and the shallow DoF works well. My only criticism would be that the head is a little overexposed, but I suspect I'm just being picky ;-)
Cheers, John.

The overall capture of this image is very well executed. The eye of the tiger is the true nature of this beast. The reflective qualities that you have seen; in the water and in the animal is evident but unfortunately is not truly apparent. I found the image a little too light and lacking contrast, hope you don't mind but I've done a workshop on this image. This is a wonderful image, but I just thought that it needed something to bring it out on the screen.

Thanks for the view

he is so beautiful, Richard.. one day i want to capture this beautiful tiger too.. we have the ordinary one in the zoo but this one a magnificient white but too bad in the cartoon the white one always the bad one :D

well composed and sharp.. can see clearly colours of the eyes.. tfs..

regards, terry

Its a typical zoo shot...
Here it seems that u left ur skills home...
Bad noise and lustreless pic, apart from a big feline cat..

Hoi Richard,
Great colors and mirroring in the water. Great capture of this king.
Very clear image with razorblade sharpness. Great job.
greetings,
Joop!
