Taken on the same day as yesterday's White Tiger snap.

This wee fella is a Saki Monkey. What I like about this shot is the focus on the eyes and the sadness of his expression. Maybe he is a Nikon user looking at my Canon :-)

"Sakis are smaller monkeys with long, bushy tails. Their furry, rough skin is black, grey or reddish-brown colored depending upon the species. The faces of some species are naked, but their head is hooded with fur. Their bodies are adapted to life in the trees, with strong hind legs allowing them to make far jumps. Sakis reach a length of 30 to 50 cm, with a tail just as long, and weigh up to 2 kg.

Sakis are diurnal animals. They live in the trees of the rain forests and only occasionally go onto the land. They mostly move on all fours, sometimes running in an upright position on the hind legs over the branches, and sometimes jumping long distances. For sleeping they roll themselves cat-like in the branches. They are generally very shy, cautious animals.

Sakis live in family federations, which consist of parents and their offspring, with mated pairs usually forming lifelong pair bonds. They are territorial animals, defending their territory in relation to other families. Sakis know a set of communication possibilities: while shrill cries or bird-like twitter serves as a connection among family members, a loud roar serves to warn other animals off their territory.

Sakis are omnivores. They eat fruits, leaves, flowers, insects, and small vertebrates, such as rodents and bats."

ISO was at 1250 as the wee fella was curled up in a shady tree, hiding from the midday sun. Sensible :-)

I'm impressed at the low noise given the ISO setting, especially when compared to y/days shot.

ISO 1250, f4, 1/125

70-200mm f2.8 I.S. lens with 1.4x extender, handheld.

Shot in RAW, jpegged, brightened slightly, resized, sharpened.

Excellent focus!
Nice colours and good light!

Excellent focus on the eyes Richard.
I really like the tight crop and love the way just part the hand on the left is just enough to imagine a wider view.
Well done.

Bonjour Richard,
Je suis impressionnée par l'intensité du regard, celui-ci nous captive complètement.
Le DOF est particulier et apporte une autre dimension à ce portrait
Bonne journée

Very good focus on the eyes. Maybe a bit more DOF would have helped (to have the muzzle clear too).
Hey, I'm a Nikon user!

Excellent portrait photography.

It's good!
You barely got away with this, the furthest eye is only just in focus with such a shallow DOF - but it works! The shot is superbly tight in its crop and composition, the eyes dominate but those fingers are a good inclusion also.
Nice work

Richard
That is a face only a mother could love. Beautiful focus on the eyes and the "fingers" and the tight DOF - and particularly impressive with the ISO, f/stop and extender. No noise! WOW.

Dan

Very Nice, Sharp Details. Emphasis on where it counts, on the eyes. Excellent work, as always, richard.

Hi Richard
You certainly can't miss the reflections in this fellow's eyes. Great sharpness on the details, and for some reason that look is somewhat similar to what my husband gives me at times...... in other words are you for real?:-))
Good shot

The expressive faces on these creatures always knock me out, I find myself really wondering what they're thinking. This wonderful, sharp, clear shot gets that going in my head--can't ask a photo to do more than that.
Great sensor in the 5D, that's very good and clean for that ISO rating, and hand-holding that beast of a lens (still great but a brute) with a tc is a pretty good trick and talent as well.
Great shot, full of technical niceties and good emotion too. :0)
