[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Naksansa Temple is situated twelve kilometers south of Sokcho, on the main road to Yangyang International Airport. One of the few temples in Korea to overlook the sea, it’s also famous for the huge white statue of Gwaneum, the goddess of mercy, and is not to be missed if you’re planning to spend some time in this part of Gangwon-do.
A steep uphill path begins at the Naksan Beach Hotel, passing new buildings, housing souvenir shops, and restaurants on its way to the hexagonal Uisangdae Pavilion, a modern structure with spectacular views over the weathered rocks and blue sea below. Banking sharply, the path continues past pine trees growing out of rock faces, then ends at Hongyeonam Hermitage, clinging to the cliff face with bamboo trees on one side and breaking waves on the other. Inside, hundreds of candles flicker in the wind around a lone golden sculpture.

Bus numbers 3, 7, and 9 link Sokcho to Yangyang Airport, all passing Naksansa. The bus journey from the airport to the temple takes ten minutes.
