Royal Azalea, in Jirisan National Park. Korea use to have a royal family, before they were assassinated, by the Japanese colonial power early last century. Royal Azalea flowers all over the mountains, from late April to Mid May. Taken at Barae-Bong ('Bong' is Korean, for 'peak'). From Wikipedia:

"Rhododendron schlippenbachii (Royal Azalea) is a species of Rhododendron native to the Korean Peninsula and adjacent regions of Manchuria (Liaoning, Nei Mongol), Japan, and the Russian Far East. It is the dominant understory shrub in many Korean hillside forests, growing at 400-1500 m altitude.

It is a dense deciduous shrub growing to 4.5 m in height, but more commonly 1-2 m tall. The leaves are obovate, 4.5-7.5 cm long and 2.5-4.5 cm broad, with scattered glandular hairs. The flowers are white to pink, often with small red spots on the upper three petals; they are produced in late spring to early summer."

This is a link to Baraebong

"Mt. Baraebong (1,165 meters above sea level) not far from Mt. Bonghwa is also famous for its royal azalea flowers. Some people prefer Mt. Baraebong, as the azalea field in Mt. Bonghwa is only a 15~20 minute walk from the parking area. You can reach the peak of Mt. Baraebong by walking one and a half hours along the wide mountain road from Unbong, and you can enjoy the beautiful azalea fields here and there along the way.

Azalea flowers on Mt. Baraebong look even more beautiful as their blossoms are large in comparison with their tiny leaves. Fully bloomed red azalea clusters spread over the green grass carpet look like a heavenly flower garden. As there are no bushes around the azalea trees, the azalea blossoms look conspicuous against the background of dark green grass. Nowadays, a research office of cattle hereditary resources (Unbong pasture) raises cows on the slope of Mt. Baraebong. But in the early 1970s, it used to be a sheep pasture. The sheep did not feed on the poisonous azalea trees but fed on other trees and grasses, helping the azalea trees thrive and widening their exclusive area. The royal azaleas fully bloom around the end of April at 500 meters above sea level near Unbong pasture, in early May at 700 meters above sea level, early May through mid May at 900 meters above sea level, and mid May through the end of May at 1,000 meters above sea level near the peak of the mountain."
