At Haedong Yonggung-Sa temple, north of Songjeong Beach, near Busan, the wall near the dragon, is covered in these cute, mini-Buddha statues. Taken on an overcast day, so the diffused light has helped, rather than hindered.

"The magnificent Yonggungsa Temple, Busan is a must see in South Korea. Thousands of tourists as well as pilgrims from different parts of the country, come to visit Busan Haedong Yonggungsa Temple. The temple is located on top of a huge rock, jutting up from the ocean. The scenic beauty of the place, along with the architectural beauty of the temple, makes it a fascinating place where you would always like to come back. The sound of the East Sea ocean waves and the melody of sutra chanting from the temple, create a magical effect. Do not miss a visit to Yonggungsa Temple, Busan while Sightseeing in Busan.

Yonggungsa temple is situated on the north-eastern coast of Busan, in the Haedong area. This spectacular site houses a number of temples along the shoreline, and offers a rare and picturesque sight to visitors. The temple was founded in 1376, during the reign of Goryeo Dynasty of Korea. During the period of the Uwang dynasty, the great Buddhist preacher 'Naong', founded this temple on the sea shore. The temple was restored in 1970. Special attention was paid while choosing the colors of the exterior.

Yonggungsa Temple in Busan is one of the most beautiful Buddhist Temples in Busan, with dozens of statues and sculptures. 'Hakeupbul' is a Buddha statue, who is known for his blessings, for the success of his studies, and 'Deuknambul' is a statue of Buddha, allowing the birth of an offspring. On entering the premises, you will see a cave on the right hand side. There is the Gulbeop Buddhist sanctum inside the cave. Its unique design is sure to capture your eyes. Visit the three-story pagoda with 4 lions located in front of the main sanctuary. These four lions symbolize sadness, anger, joy, and happiness. Along with these, you can also visit 'Haesu Gwaneum Daebul', or Seawater Great Goddess Buddha, Daeungjeon Main Sanctuary, and Yongwangdang Shrine, at the temple complex.

While climbing up the 108 steps, stop midway to enjoy the breathtaking view of the ocean. Yonggungsa Temple in Busan is best visited in April, when cherry blossoms are in full bloom. The birth of Buddha, which is also celebrated in April/May, is another reason why you should visit this place. During the festive season, the temple and surrounds offers a picturesque night view, as the stone lanterns lining the rocky landscape are lit with electricity. People also visit the place on New Year's eve, to make a wish and enjoy the spectacular vista of sunrise over the East Sea. Indeed, Yonggungsa Temple, Busan, is one of the premier Tourist Attractions in Busan, where nature is more prominent than religion."

What dragon?, I hear you ask. Well, here's an overview of the temple complex. The statues / dragon, are located in the centre, above the roofline, & to the left of the 2 gold pigs.

Interesting subject and nice colours helped no doubt by the cloudy day IMHO I would have liked a lower pov rather than looking down on them. I dont know how easy that would have been. TFS

Oh how nice Chris! Quite a LIST of Buddhas you have there. Do they have names? Do you know all their names? Maybe you should get someone to name them! Cute shot! They remind me of Cewpie Dolls! I like your colors here, but I always like the lower tones!

Dear Jules sunsaeng-nim,

Lovely and tiny statues of the dongja-sung (동자승; boy monks) and an attractive photo from your loving attention for the small part of the temple. I like the high point of view and framing. Very good colors and sharpness.

해맑은 동자승(童子僧)들 모습이 너무나 귀엽습니다.

Many thanks for the sharing and best regards,
Eungbong
