Sigiriya (Lion's rock) is one the world heritage sites of Sri Lanka . It is an ancient rock fortress and castle/palace ruin surrounded by the remains of an extensive network of gardens, reservoirs, and other structures.

The Gardens of Sigiriya is one of the most important aspects of the site as it is among the oldest landscaped gardens in the world. The gardens are divided into three distinct forms; water gardens, Cave and boulder gardens, and terraced gardens.

The water garden displays one of the worlds most sophisticated hydraulic technologies, dating from the Early Historic Period. It also shows an interconnection of macro- and micro-hydraulics to provide for domestic horticultural and agricultural needs, surface drainage and erosion control, ornamental and recreational water courses and retaining structures and also cooling systems.

This moss covered wall is part of the water garden. I took this shot as I liked the varying greens from the grass, leaves and the almost luminous green of the moss.

hi Suba

Very nice to read about UN WHC and interesting to learn about this place with the water garden concept. I am not really seeing how the water garden concept works here from this shot but the green patches of tone is noted.

IMO, I find the view is oversharpened because I see defects in the trees and grass. Otherwise, a nice shot.

Subashini,

Very interesting capture! The background seems to be a little over sharpened and over saturated but could be resolved by fading the saturation and sharpness out to the background as it doesn't seem to bother me so much at the bottom of the photo (foreground).

TFS!
Michael

Hi Suba !
Funny, I've been to this place and I know exactly where it is; I recognize it. When I was there, the gras wasn't present that much.
The sharpness and clarity are great in this image. The green is a bit too much sharpened and I guess the light was harsh at that moment. The note is very good.
TFS.
Joop!
