The ramparts on the sea side of the historic Dutch Fort in Galle, Southern Sri Lanka. A favorite place for the local residence to take an evening stroll. The height of the ramparts can be judged by the size of the people on the pathway. A more detailed photo of the old Fort is here
During 2004 December tsunami, the ramparts and the fort stood the onslaught of the killer wave with out any significant damage inside the fort, while the surrounding city was devastated with a huge loss of life. |
