[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The infamous Bridge on the River Kwai, actually has several cemeteries. This is the Asian cemetery. Over 100,000 Asians (Indonesians, Malays, Chinese, Thais) died in & around Kanchanaburi, constructing the Death Railway & bridge across the Kwai River to Burma, where the Japanese Imperial Army hoped to launch invasion strikes on (then) British India & Burma. I think the Asian cemetery is every bit as important as the European cemetery, for Dutch, Australian, & British soldiers nearby, in which 6,000 well kept graves are attended to by the Thais. This headstone is about 3-4 metres high.

If anyone can read the script, or tell me what country it originates from, I'd be grateful.

Hi Chris,
Very nice composition and colours. A sidebar about the Bridge over the River Kwai, David Lean's famous movie was filmed in Sri Lanka. I have been at the location where they built the bridge for the film. In late 70's the rail tracks leading to the bridge were still there, the bridge of course was blown up at the end of the movie.

The image is very well done, but only after reading the note did I realise its history. I do like teh colours and the yellow blue contrast. Obviously I have no idea whats written on it. TFS

A very colourful, clear and sharp shot Chris. Interesting story and well written. Very nicely done... Sam

The beautiful blue sky with the yellow and red makes a very good contrast for me. The sun reflecting off the yellow might be a bit strong... Maybe another angle needed (as long as the composition is not down graded)... TFS

the colours are out of this world, Chris, thanx again for your interesting images and notes, M, (*_*)

Hi Chris,
great sharpnes and beautiful colours. The BLUE of the sky is great.
Nino

It's seem to be high! I like the detail of it! Evocate culture in a good way!

Hi Chris,
it's wonderful, I havn't seen them - but perhaps they are not so pretty anymore - some time has gone since you made this shot.
A pretty quality with brilliant colours, thank you very much, bye

Hi Chris,
I have been there. And made the boot tour to the bridge. And visited the Dutch cemetery. Don’t remember of haven’t seen this beauties you show us today. Works well the gold/yellow with the hard blue sky. Thanks for binging back that memory.

Beautiful monuments over a gorgeous blue sky, Chris, with a very touching note. The yellow in the monuments is such a good contrast against the blue. Very interesting point of view showing us only the top of it. Well done!

Sorry, I have run out of green smiles!

I saw the Indian one on a government tour. this is a sad place for sure.

Hi Chris, Good capture of these mosaic-tiles turrets against the pure deep blue sky. Wonderful colours and clarity. Murray.
