I saw these colorful masks in a roadsidw stall in Mai Sai, the most northerly city in Thailand. Next stop is Tachilek in Burma. I like the contrasts in color & lighting.

Hi Chris,
Very nice presentation of these very beautiful and colorfull masks, The colors are reall good, with an excellent sharpness to see all the details of these masks. TFS.

This is like one of those "Spot the Odd One Out' games. A test of observation. No 2 and No 4 appear to be the same but they aren't. #1 and #3 ARE the same.
So, what's the significance of the red/gold combination. Chinese do favour red and gold, I understand, so this must be for the same reasons? Similar cultural meanings of good luck and prosperity?
Do I also assume that these are actual face-size or are they miniatures? Did you buy one? Sorry about all the questions .. maybe a longer explanatory note?
manila Jury took a long look and there were mutterings of crop options. Not easy with something like this, Jimmy the Knife suggested cropping INTO the masks on the left, better a cut into an object to have some parity with the cut on the right. 8.3/10 was the eventual decision.

they look very intricate, you've really captured all the detail very well, thanx, M, (*_*)

Hi Chris,
Looks very intricate and colourful. It is a pity that the shop decided to exhibit them on a pale blue wall, a dark background would have made this picture much more richer.
