[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
When the tsunami struck on the beautiful morning of Sunday, 26 December 2004 the lives of the survivors changed forever. Since then they have had to rebuild their lives, usually from scratch.

The photo shows a colourful hand-painted batik fabric from a group called 'Pruteow' and consisting of some 16 survivors in Southern Thailand. They mostly come from the devastated village of Bang Nian. Supported by the Tsunami Craft Centre (www.tsunamicraft.com) they have been able to develop this new trade to the point of ensuring a new livelihood for themselves and their families.

I am posting this image also to show you the amazing artistic talent of these villagers. The colour combination with different blue tones, browns and green is superb. For me this is an astonishingly classical composition, which also includes a frame in frame (rocks, sailing boats and palm trees).

These people would not have had a single art lesson in their lives.

Thank you for visiting.

PP: cropped, added contrast, slight saturation, frame and re-sized. The white spot in the lower RH corner is left to keep the 'authenticity' of the original. So is the 'sharpness', this is batik work on cotton.

Hi Cordelia. Very nice presentation. Beautiful colors in the artwork. Thanks for sharing.

Hello Cordelia!
Superb tribute to the courage and difficult life of the Tsunami survivors.
More amazingly , this beautiful piece of art ,is still showing the beauty of Thailand instead of rememebering the disaster events.
Bravo and thanks for the useful note!

Hi Cordelia,
From Humour to life-changing moments. That's TL. I think nobody will ever forget the tsunami, but to have lived through it, lost family or friends, that must have been sheer hell.
The creators of this batk on cotton are very creative, as are you for seeing and capturing it this way.
TFS Picture and story.
