[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is another picture I took while I was vacationing in Thailand.

The monarch butterfly sat on a stem of orchid buds at the Rose Garden in the provice of Nakhon Pratom.

The funny thing is there were no roses at the Rose Garden. I was told that roses were not thriving so they decided to grow orchids instead.

Take a look at the abundance of exotic orchids at the Rose Garden.

This is another beautiful exotic orchids there.

This is a classic subject but I find your picture very original.
The profile shows the underside of the wings and keeps wings and body in the plane of focus. The scent gland on the hindwing (showing this is a male specimen) is very well in view. Also, I have never seen a monarch with such a pale abdomen, in North America the entire body is much darker, almost black albeit with the same white spots. I guess it was freshly emerged from its chrysalid as there are no scratches on the wings.
Technically this is an excellent picture overall. TFS.
Best regards
Michel

Astonishing!

Hi Nap, Very good macro shot. Good sharpness, DOF and composition.

Bravo! Marie-José

Hello Nap,
I have to agree with Mite, I have never seen neither a so pale abdomen for a Monarch. Are you sure that he is not in transformation from its caterpillar state?

This is a very nice capture, well detailed and with nice natural colors and superb environment. This is a beautiful shot. Thanks,
Claudine
