"Ko Tapu is an island located in the Phang Nga Bay, Thailand. It has become a popular touristic site since it was featured in the James Bond movie The Man with the Golden Gun - for this reason, it is also often referred to as James Bond island. The height of the island is about 200 meters.

The island is usually visited by day-tours using longtail boats, departing from Phuket island. It is located within the Ao Phang Nga National Park."

The Man With The Golden Gun

"On arriving at his island he is heartily welcomed by Scaramanga and enjoys a brief meal prepared by Nick Nack after he is shown Scaramanga's personal solar power plant and utilary. He is shown the super solar gun operated by the Solex which is powered by a solar receptor hidden in the mushroom-shaped rock which destroys Bond's seaplane banked on the beach. During the meal Scaramanga proposes that he and Bond experience a traditional pistol duel on the beach. Eventually however, Scaramanga leads Bond into his Hall of Mirrors where he meets his ultimate demise, but not before Mary Goodnight in way-laying a henchman into a pool of liquid helium upsets the balance of the solar plant as it gradually grows out of control. The island completely ignites in the closing scenes as Bond and Goodnight escape unharmed in Scaramanga's Chinese junk, finally containing the surprisingly aggessive Nick Nack by strapping him to the mast as the ship sails away across the South China Sea."

I'm been messing about with this image for some time, unsure what to do with it. The weather was pretty rotten, washed out skies etc. So b/w seemed the obvious choice. Shot in RAW and spent a lot of time messing about with curves, layers, contrasts, channels and a hell of lot of other stuff I don't understand! :-)

Anyway, this was the end result.

Francisco Scaramanga: A duel between titans... my golden gun against your Walther PPK.

James Bond: One bullet against my six?

Francisco Scaramanga: I only need one, Mr. Bond.

I like the silhuette of the island, seems alive! Pretty incredibe piece of nature, 200 meters high and I would say the base is 40-50 m... nice capture!

Richard! Mysterious place, mysterious shot. I presume! My name is Cava, Mikolaj Cava.

The low tones in this Richard are AWESOME! I've seen the daylight version of this massive rock and it's such a beautiful place! But the low hanging rain clouds, the graduation from red to blue is wonderful. A bit noisey at the top, but that can be fixed easily! Wonderful Richard!

Eye catching post Richard!
The place is indeed very easy to recognize with these silhouettes. Good choice to demonstrate in B&W with minimal details. The treathening sky does compensate for the lack of details on the rocky islands.

Robert

Hi Richard,
Oh my what a mood you've created here. Excellent composition and exposure. I really like your choice for black and white here. Awesome textures, well done!

Very interesting tones and a good mood. Well done.
Thanks for sharing,
Leanne

Hi Richard,
This is a magnificent photo. Such a good composition whith a perfect sharp silhoutte of the famous rock. Your PP work created this wonderful misterious look that fits the titlle perfectly. The fact that you used the rock to block the sun gave the rock a kind of halo. Love the soft silhouttes in the BG as well.

Niek

P.S. Need to fav this one.

Hi Richard,

You have a great creativity of presenting this lovely scenery in B&W . . I should try working on B&W and see what shows up . . I learn new thing today . . Thank you my friend.

Tfs,
Tjutjut

Richard,
I enjoy this dark moody image. The clouds are highlighted just enough to make them ominous and spooky. The shapes of the mountains in the BG are perfect and composed nicely in this scene. You WERE standing at the right spot!
I am not sure if this is a B&W though, I see some pink on the top or is it just an illusion? Could there be a B&W&P?
I do kind of get this espionage feel and expect Oddjob to be throwing a freshly sharpened fedora at me! Nice work...
Scott

It is almost a B&W photo
The sky shows some colour
I allway thought that it was Vietnam and not Thailand

Hi Richard, Good B&W composition of this famous karst structure. This view is also very good in colour as others have posted too. Maybe a workshop as a colour version would be an interesting addition. Thailand is a great place for beauty. TFS. Murray.

In a word....superb!
