Firstly, i have no idea if this looks ok or not! Edited using basic software on a laptop whose colour/brightness etc seems to be in dire need of calibration!! So, this could look completely screwed, i dunno - please tell me!

Snapped earlier today as we went for a walk, exploring the beach around our hotel - just popped up to Phuket for a family holiday. Phuket is an easy place for us to visit, just over an hour on the plane from Singapore. I suppose a colour beach shot would be far better, but i am paranoid about the colours on this laptop!! :-)

Shot in RAW, converted, slight crop, resized, sharpened, brightness/contrast fiddling, ran through NeatImage even though i dont think it needed it - just wanted to see if it gave a "dreamier" finish. Think that's about it!

Oh my. This looks horrible....

I can't believe you would waste your time posting this on TrekLens.
Just kidding. :)
Fantastic image Richard!
I love the black and white tones, lighting, and silhouettes of the trees. Very well done!

Leanne

Hi richard,
Not screwed at all. I think this is a fantastic composition and is a superb choice for black and white. You've executed this very well. Congrats!

Hi Richard,
Nice shot, I like the way you have the tree in the foreground, this with the beach and the other tree makes the shot interesting, I also like the darkness of the bach leaving just enough detail for it not to be black, great sky too.
Tfs Andy

Hello Richard!

Funny note . But do not worry , it is superb. I like a lot the dark , and dramatic POV and light. It enhanced very well the beauty of the sky . with the ground level brighter we would have lost the details of the sky . A different and original beach scene. Bravo!
Robert

It LOOKS fabulous Richard, maybe...just me...maybe a tiny bit dark, BUT the darkness adds drama and mystery to the shot! LOVE the wide angle, the coulds are veyr nice in leading the eye back...the white surf shows action! I love it! Amazing!

Like the overall effect Richard, looks fine to me in fact the sky almost looks like the patterns you would see in an Aura Borealis (northern lights)
"So, this could look completely screwed, i dunno - please tell me!" looks great to me :)

Morning Richard,
That sky looks totally dramatic and wonderful. Add to that huge tree-silhouettes and pure white surf and you have a lovely composition to share.
Hey, you must have had a feeling it would be sort of nice....:) despite poor calibration.

Hi Richard, stunning in black and white, any chance of seeing a coloured version when you get back to your desktop? Nicely composed, excellent tones and I think the 'Neat' treatment worked well. TFS,
David
