The same dancer as in this shot.

The dancers in these shows were blessed with grace and elegance - indeed, I believe those traits are shared by many/most Thais. They are a charming, friendly and polite people - we have visited there three times this year and I am sure we shall return soon. Thailand is known as the "Land of Smiles" and I think that is very fitting.

"Like most Asian cultures, respect towards ancestors is an essential part of Thai spiritual practice. Thais have a strong sense of hospitality and generosity, but also a strong sense of social hierarchy. Seniority is an important concept in Thai culture. The elders always rule in family decisions or ceremonies.

The traditional Thai greeting, the wai, is offered first by the youngest of the two people meeting, with their hands pressed together, fingertips pointing upwards as the head is bowed to touch their face to the hands, usually coinciding with the spoken word "Sawat-dii khrap" for male speakers, and "Sawat-dii ka" for females. The elder then is to respond afterwards in the same way. When children leave to go to school, they wai to their parents to represent their respect for them. They do the same when they come back. It is a sign of respect and reverence for another, similar to the namaste greeting of other cultures."

Beautiful skin tones Richard, and a great lens you have.I like the different backgrounds behind her hands and the space you have left around her.Striking photo.

Another nice shot in your series. This doesn't quite have the mystery of the previous ones, nor the subdued background - but still exquisite sharpness and tones, and a lovely capture of a graceful pose.
Well done

Steve

Hello Richard,
This is beautiful, she looks so delicate yet so graceful. You have captured her movement perfectly. Good sharpness and very natural colour.
Absolutely stunning,
Pete.

Hi Richard,
You chose on purpose the f/2.8 aperture I supose, to keep the BG blurred? Anyway I like the way you present this dancing lady. Superb sharpnes of the main object, excellent contrast of her mask. A fine posting my Scottish Warrior :-)

I like this shot i think better than the first one, because we can see more of the face and the detail of the mask. The DOH is just perfect. I'd like to be there in person to watch those dancers some day...

Now, why can't I grow my fingernails that long?? I try and try! B-)...lovely pose, excellent tones, an interesting shot because the face is so still....it makes me stare...is it a mask?? B-)
Linda

Hi Richard,
Good DOF and pose
very well done

Hi Richard - Yes, all that you mention about Thais is here in your image of this Thai dancer(at least for me, after living there for three years): their friendliness, charm and politeness. I do like the various white tones (well handled), her posture and the beautiful skin. There was probably another lovely Thai face behind that dramatic mask. Unconventional dress (and mask), but all the more interesting. Well done and TFS! - Cordelia :)

Hi Richard!
This portrait of an "exotic" dancer is so fascinating for the way it expresses feelings. Sharpness in a shallow dof add a lot to the composition.
Regards!
Anton
