Family Drive - Vietnamese Style!
 |

| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
Just back from a quick three day trip to Vietnam - Saigon. Or, as it is known now, Ho Chi Minh City.
This was my first trip to Vietnam and I shall return. Like Cambodia and unlike much of Singapore, this is true Asia for me. Frantic, hectic, disorganised, fun and with wonderful people who retain a friendliness and warmth along with grace and dignity despite, especially here, a recent troubled history.
What hits you in Ho Chi Ming - not literally, hopefully - is the sheer number of motorbikes and mopeds zooming around. People of all shapes and sizes riding around in a seemingly directionless fashion, weaving in and around each other without a care. And if the roads are too busy...hey, no problem, ride along the pavement! Truly wonderful stuff. I love this side of Asia.
I spent much of Sunday evening around this spot, watching, snapping, trying to take it all in and make sense of the traffic system. Impossible - there is no sense to it! Still, gave me a chance to practice panning...

Hi Richard,
4 persons on a motorbike is a regular thing :) I have seen up to 6 ;) Thanks for this photography. It reminds me so many souvenirs. Technically speaking, I really like the dof, sharpness/motion aspect of this one. Good panning job.
Vietnam is a wonderful country and the Vietnamese (along with the minority groups) are certainly amazing and gracious people. I hope you'll have the chance to go there once again :)
You really must have a look at this picture from Chuck's gallery : http://www.treklens.com/gallery/Asia/Vietnam/photo216926.htm
Tfs,
Ciao,

Hi Richard,
I hope you didn't take your family on a bike joy ride though I bet little Hannah would have found it fun.
Nice capture, good sharpness on the main subject and good colours, did you notice the only one to look at you was the little maid in the pink hat!! must ave been the Kilt LOL
Tfs Andy
Hi Richard,
You are the expert of capturing action or moving object. Very sharp image! Great composition.
You should stop by to Jakarta, and I'l show you similar kind and even worst than this.
Did you try local foods or snacks?
Tfs,
Tjutjut
Funny photo ! So, most families don't have more then 2 kids, otherwise they need a XXL bike ...
I think the panning is ok !
Well done,
Jan
I think we could learn a little from the Vietnamese. If we followed their transportation example, particularly in the U.S. we would have much less pollution, global warming, and dependency on oil problems. Nice freeze in the motion. Thanks for sharing.
Best regards,
Rob
