[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Taken in one of the basement rooms of the Reunification Palace in Ho Chi Minh. The basement rooms were the Command Centre for South Vietnamese forces prior to the fall of Saigon in April 1975.

"The building is preserved almost as it was on the last day of the Republic of Vietnam in 1975. A statue of Ho Chi Minh and a viewing room are the latest additions.

On the morning of 30 April 1975, the 43-hour-old government of South Vietnam sat quietly on the second floor of this grand building - then called the Independence Palace - waiting to transfer power to the Northern forces who were crashing through the wrought iron gates below. 'There is no question of you transferring power,' they were told by a Viet Cong officer. 'You cannot give up what you do not have.'

The most interesting section of the Reunification Palace is the basement - a network of tunnels and rooms, including a war room and a telecommunications room. One of the tunnels stretches all the way to Gia Long Palace, now known as the Revolutionary Museum."

Forgive but not forget ,because hopefully we learn from the past .Great POV gives a good feel of the room.Good choice using b&w...but was the phone red?
Nico

Hello Richard,

I like the B&W use here with excllent use of DOF so you can tell the room the mood was set and delevied

Hmm... I find this one a hard one to comment on...
I do like the BW and the twisted phone cord adds to the bleak mood... Also the blurred maps? in the BG... scary place

but a nice capture of history.. something we do need to keep going

original. Nice composition. I specially like the disregard for the white weird lights in the background. Some could argue that they're distracting, but I actually think it's a nice touch.

thanks for sharing

Simon

Hi Richard

Great shot.. love it.. nothing in the room matters but the phone that will bring the latest news.. well thats my interpretation of it anyway. Well suited in B/W to give it the age and as I already said DOF used here gives fantastic emphasis.

Ta for the great notes too ;-)

TFS regards Helen

Nice commentary and simple but effective shot, I like the starkness of the environment and the light is good if a little overexposed in places.

B&W perfect choice for this one.

TFS,
Neil.

OH my...the first look just agitated me and I kept thinking "why??"....and then I saw the tangled cord! HAHAA! My phone at work does this and it makes me SO mad! HAHAHA! Love the tones here, the super wide angle and focus on just the phone! Nice BW treatment...now untangle that cord before I have a stroke!!
B-)
