in Japan,old wooden houses have black floors like this,these have been polishing by hands and wet clothes for long time...a black corridor in the shade is ordinary.
and Japanese people found the beauty in the black shadow.Junichirou Tanizaki wrote this stories well in his "IN-EI RAISAN" (The Shadow Admiration).
