Back to Cuba today (^_^)

Tuesday of our second week in Cuba, I left Martine alone. I went with Christina and Frank on a special tour. With two jeeps, a guide Daniel, and two drivers we headed South toward the region of Mayari.

Despite the distance is about the same as going to Holguin, the roads were not as good. Therefore, it appeared to be much farther (^_^) than it was actually.

The mountains of Mayari called Sierra del Cristal are really surprising. We discovered a whole new world. Forest of pine trees even ! Large areas were cut in the past we noted. Nickel mines were also seen along the way. A very pleasant day. Like it happens frequently, it was raining at times in the mountains. This is why the region is so green (^_^). No filtering or noise reduction on purpose as the visibility was reduced and the weather was misty.

Here this one was taken actually on our way back to sea level. This truck wwas coming back from town back to the highlands. Going to a farm ? a plantation ? a mine ? Pretty difficult to say here.

Technically , I desaturated partly the shot to increase a bit the dull day mood, and give a retro look to the scene as well. i took away the blues , yellows completely ( The licence plate of the truck is normally bright yellow ), I decreased the saturation of green, red and incrased the grey. Note It was sunny and warm on the coast line a few kms away , But at the footstep of the mountains , it was misty and grey.

Have a great day or night ( depending where you are ) , and thanks a million for the kind words on my previous post. Time for me to go to bed . It is 01:00 Am . Rrrrrroooooooooo ZZZZzzzzzzzss

RRRRrrooooobeeerrr.....

The front tires seem very worn out. I'm surprised the truck has any grip on ths type of roads. This image remind me of the times I spent growing up in Nicaragua. It was a bad time under the communist government but people lived their lives normally. Good perspective and enhancement of the image. Thanks Robert.

Roberto

Hi Robert,
very nice picture, good documentary, well composed. Strong expression of the men on the truck. I regret only that it's a little cut off while there's space on the left, but maybe it increases the impact...
Keep it like this mate!!!

Hi Robert
True Cuba. No longer a long way it will end. Fidel will be missing, transformations will touch it. Appeal of Cuba will disappear.

hi robert,

the taste of cuba ... a dull day and people with no smile... have been there 2 times so I recognize this picture. old trucks and people at the back of a 6 star vehicle.

well done and regards frans

I found your Photoshop work on this image very interesting and helpful, but what I really enjoy is the POV with the valley below giving the impression that the truck is going up the mountain. This vehicle has seen better days.

Great photojournalism, Robert!
It looks a rough ride indeed -- and a faded land with too little colour or joy. Interesting stuff

merci,

armel.

Hello Robert!
At first this photo might seem a bit boring, but finally it "becomes" a masterpiece.
I like the way how the dumper truck comes into the photo, so I like the POV, I don't mind cutting its back. I also like the desaturated colours and the men sitting on the truck.
TFS!
Best wishes,
Marci

Excellent PP work Robert in achieving what you aimed to do. The image is still very natural looking. Well composed and fine detail. I feel the truck and the tyres have seen better days. TFS,
David
